Not sure what happened but I cannot figure out the ATC being greyed out. I’ve looked up everything and cannot find a solution wanted to know if anyone had one. I tried switching ATC off and back on in the assistance options. Restarted my computer still the same issue I see other players and everything else is working as far as online functionality. Trying to avoid reinstalling the game 
Occurs on Xbox series x as well
Have no ground crew either, haven’t seen any airport vehicles 
I don’t know what you mean by “ATC greyed out” (where exactly?) but all the airports I checked in the Los Angeles area are showing up as uncontrolled, so there’s no radio options for ATC. When I take off from KSNA, I’m offered the ATC dialog choices for an untowered airport. Other airports in the area, such as KSLI, KLGB, KFUL, and KLAX all show as untowered as well, so selecting them in the ATC window shows me the options for untowered airports: I can select a runway and announce my intention to land, but can’t contact approach or tower to ask for clearance.
On the white tool bar where it shows checklist, AI control , weather etc. i dont even have the option to communicate with ATC it isnt there and when i try to click on the settings portion of the toolbar to add the ATC option is greyed out

Just found a solution:
Load up to the main menu, Options, assistance, change the preset to “All assists” - this is the mistake I made last night, I individually changed each setting to on. DONT DO THAT, change the preset at the top of the page!
Apply and save the changes. Close the sim. Restart the PC.
Load up to the main menu again, options, assistance, now change the preset to “True to life” - again making sure you do it via the main preset.
Apply and save, close the sim, restart the the pc again.

This worked thanks bud still have the weird looking altitude dials and speed dials though
Hard to tell from that screenshot. Are those the external view dials? If so, you can turn those off in one of the settings..I need to look where.
Thanks so much for this! I can confirm this fix works for xbox too. Just quit the app at the relevant point in the process. ATC is back!!

Thanks for the solution offered here. I tried it and it worked for one flight and then it went back to greyed out status again. Never had this before the 40th anniversary update. I hope they find a permanent solution to this soon. It’s rather difficult to fly without ATC.
