First post here, so please go easy if I’m posting in the wrong section !!
Why is it the ATC will allow you to navigate (and attempt to land) to an airport that is unsuitable to the size of aircraft you are in?
E.g
Flying an A320 and not knowing the area, requested to land at HOEFEN (LOIR) which has a runway just large enough to land a toy glider. !
The end result being a an A320 running into Mr. Browns barn and his cows !
Surely, you should be directed to an airport more suited to the size and runway requirements of the A320 ?
Could argue that as the pilot it is your responsibility to ensure you have enough room to land based on your aircraft type, weight, weather conditions etc.
ATC will just do their best to get you into the airfield you requested
Yes, you could argue that… ~
I guess I could have requested a fly past when I notice the landing strip was too small.
Being very new to MSFS or Flight Sims in general, I have a lot to learn !
In real life, the pilot should know all about the destination airport before take off as part of the flight plan. After the plane is in the air and they need to divert to another airport, the pilot will refer to their charts to pick a suitable airport. There are free services you can use to plan your flights such as skyvector. The game is not smart enough to do those things for you and probably never will.
If you think you cannot land, e.g. too short, you can request a touch and go. This involves setting up for a landing, just touching down, but then powering up again and climb out and go on to your next destination. It is a great skill to have and generally speaking you don’t need much runway to do it.
