What would three be confused with?

Ja! Reading some random articles google shows me, it seems it is "easier to pronounce for non native English speakers… No idea, just used to it from hearing it in DCS, so please, do correct me :stuck_out_tongue:

See here… Tree, Foh-Wer, Fife - AOPA.

This is accurate as to how it’s supposed to be done. If not the actual practice.

Hello @daviator9952,

Pronouncing “three” like “tree” in radio communications is not a bug but is accurate to real life aviation standards as other posters have previously mentioned. The reason three is pronounced like tree on the radio is because aviation is international, and it can be very difficult for some speakers whose primary language isn’t English to pronounce a “th” sound.

Please see this guide published by the FAA:

https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/fs_html/chap2_section_3.html

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I haven’t done this yet in 2024 (the file used to be in the root of the fs-base directory) but you should be able to change this if you want. The pronunciation appears to be in the Limitless/Packages/fs-base-atc/en-US.locPak file … alter it at your own risk, and keep in mind if you do, then it will be overwritten at the next update. Don’t forget to back up the file first.

(Hint: open the file and search for ‘tree’)

“Sri.” Keep in mind this isn’t just for English speaking nations. These pronunciations are part of the International Civil Aviation Organization, so they need to account for words in other languages, as well.

Wow, I never knew that. I stand corrected. Thank you.
