ATR 72 terrain mode causes all screens to freeze

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

When hitting the screen to enable terrain mode on the screen, all switches, functions and other screens freeze.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
ATR 72

Every time to enable terrain mode on the MFD screesn

For me it unfreezes after 3-4 minutes of waiting but the issue is definitely there

Freezes for me as well in MSFS 2024 when adjusting terrain mode in map.

Same here, first time terrain is switched on all the displays freeze for a minute or two. It’s FS2024 only, in 2020 no freeze. I guess it’s because of streaming. In 2020 all the files including the terrain map are stored locally, in 2024 it’s streamed every time you load the plane after sim restart. In 2020 the terrain file is almost 300 MB (stored in microsoft-aircraft-atr\SimObjects\Airplanes\Microsoft_ATR_Common\data\terrain), I guess it’s the same being streamed in 2024…

So pbly no fix - all the ‘benefits’ of streaming getting uncovered!

Selecting ND TERR causes the ATR to freeze. It eventually unfreezes, but it takes an objectionable amount of time (felt like 1-2 minutes)

+1. Even if you leave TERR mode on during flight, it will sporadically freeze once in a while.

I’m watching the world go by real slow but can’t do anything about the plane as I’m descending into the terrain.

Yes- I found if it let the sim sit for 3-6mins it would unfreeze as well.

Still happens, however the freeze stops the whole plane from moving and everything freezes as if its a wasm crash.

BUT the freeze lasts around 45 seconds then everything resumes like normal. I am using MSFS 2024 SU3

2026 and problem pressist. Happens when clicking on ND screen shortchuts like range “+” or “-”

This is one of the reasons that i don’t fly this plane anymore lots of issues and bugs.

Hmm, weird, I don’t have this bug. Also using 2024 and while I’d say there’s a very small (but still noticeable) delay in activating terrain mode, everything continues to run as expected afterwards.

I’m using a 9800X3D with a 9700XT GPU.

My ATR 72 doesn’t work…. transfer from 2020, cant do anything, no action when push the button or thruddle hh

This bug is still present in the native 2024 build released today.

It seems this symptom will not disappear unless download the entire terrain radar data in advance.

I get a second or two of delay when activating terrain mode but it’s never once failed or caused anything else to freeze, so there must be some combination of settings that allow it to work (or fail) :thinking:

And it is totally unecessary to have such high resolution, the real one has a very poor resolution on the terrain display. You certainly can’t pick out individual waterways and such. This is what the real one looks like:

This seems to be the issue. Downloading the aircraft to my library fixes it for me.
