ATR "Hotel Mode" (Prop Brake) NOT working

Hotel mode is not working. When starting up the Aircraft Cold and Dark or using the Ground Power State preset you can flick on the Prop brake all you like, when you start up the No. 2 engine the propeller starts spinning. Also no light indications whatsoever from the prop brake. I’ve then tried the Hotel Mode state and in that state you are unable to release the prop brake. You can flip the switch off but the propeller never starts spinning. Interestingly enough on a test flight I did I just didn’t bother with hotel mode and immediately started up the engine, after landing again I was able to properly engage the prop brake. However I don’t know if it would’ve been possible to disengage it again.

For the hotel mode, make sure you have enabled the “gust lock” lever, the black/yellow one above the throttles. It is a condition for the propeller brake to be operated. Once you enable the gust lock, use the HYD AUX PUMP button to pressurize the hydraulic system. The light next to the prop brake switch will say “Ready” when the state of the brake can be changed.

Hi @colinL5707 ,

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.

Ok, fair, but what about the prop brake not releasing?

Mine releases fine. Again, you’ve got to make sure “Ready” is highlighted green. This can be done either by starting engine 1 and moving the condition lever into Auto and waiting for a short period for the hydraulics to pressurise, or by pressing the HYD AUX PUMP button

Ok I understand. So from what I can tell there simply is no bug regarding the Prop Brake or the Hotel Mode, contrary to what many users state?

That I can’t be sure of. But given that flight directors are working fine for some people and not for others (not working for me) who knows at this point. I’m in the ATR72-600 passenger variant so there could be bugs specific to variants.

thats true. anyways I think I got the Prop Brake thing figured out now. It’s been a hot minute since I last flew the ATR in 2020 :stuck_out_tongue:

I have the same problem. I can not get the blade to spin after releasing the prop brake for eng 2.

Can you share some screenshots of your cockpit when this is happening? Ideally showing the main instrument panel, throttle quadrant, and overhead panel.

The conditions required for READY light (propeller brake activation) are:

  • On ground
  • Right fire handle pushed in
  • Gust lock - ON
  • Right condition lever - FTR or FUEL S.O.
  • Hydraulic blue pressure above 2100 psi

Hydraulic blue pressure is normally achieved with the DC AUX pump, but can also be achieved by starting engine 1 and unfeathering the propeller or using AC GPU (not practical, usually AC GPU is only used for maintenance purposes).

have you taken off the covers via the EFB? I am not sure about prop brake, but it will prevent engines from starting when they are on. So might be the reason here as well
