ATR lighting bugs

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
The problem is that (a) the cockpit is too bright at night and (b) the cockpit (dome) lights don’t seem to work (or the switch doesn’t seem to do anything). The plane in question is the ATR 74-600 (all variants) which is part of the Aviator edition of the game. I opened a bug report through Zen desk (I thought that was the proper way).

I found the bug source, apparently one light (LIGHT_Asobo_CabinBounce, denom. Ambient.5 (id:21)) is always on. Not only that but the mesh material is not found on a lot of the lights (image attached). I’d like to try to fix it myself but I never made a mod (or anything similar) and the SDK docs aren’t helping change a plane that is being streamed.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:

ATR 42-600/72-600 all variants

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes and yes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you
Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? It happens every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Start any flight on the ATR at night
  2. Turn off all interior lights.
  3. Verify that the cockpit is still illuminated
  4. Turn on the dome lights
  5. Verify that nothing happens

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
Logitech G-56 HOTAS & Logitech Flight Rudder Pedals

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
Not when I first got this issue. Eventually I turned the dev mode on to get the extra information for the report

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
RTX 4070ti Super

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?
CPU: Intel i7 14700k
RAM: 64GB DDR5 6000
SSD (in which the game is installed on): Kioxia Exceria Pro SSD 1TB NVMe M.2 2280 (PCI4.0)

Update (06/12/2024)

I opened two bug reports and both were closed and marked as “Solved” without any justification and without actually fixing the bug. I must admit I’m a bit disappointed with this level of support.

Update (19/12/2025)

Now that we get the 2024 planes on 2020 as well I decided to try the ATR on MSFS2020 to compare the behaviour and, although the light switches seem to be working that strange light source is still there (albeit a bit less pronounced). I almost seems deliberate but it’s stupid… Anyway It’s still not fixed.

Like some comments have said this can be mitigated with this mod.

I agree, we could enjoy the lighting if this light wasn’t always on.

same issue. Asobo realy needs to sort that out

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

In MSFS 2024, the cockpit of the ATR (both 42 and 72) is extremely lit with some artificial lighting coming from an unknown source. Even in cold and dark at night, the cockpit has more interior lighting than in 2020 with overhead lights on.

This isn’t an issue in daytime flights, but it’s unbearable at night, more even in pitch black nights.

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:

ATR 42/72

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes, I’m still experiencing the issue (I have no mods nor add-ons).

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Spawn in cold and dark pretty much everywhere, but to err on the safe side you can do it in any autogen non IFR airport with poor lighting
  2. Check the lighting. Should see an obvious cockpit lighting enabled, with no clear source.
  3. Fire up 2020 in the same place and compare.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

[PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?

This is a cold and dark cockpit of the ATR in MSFS 2024. No clear source but the cockpit is extremely lit.

This is the same airplane, the same cockpit, same place, same time, in MSFS 2020.

Why isn’t this bug at least feedback logged? Not blaming, perhaps there’s something I don’t know about the methodology, but my common sense tells me this could be feedback logged, considering it’s a known and proven issue.

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.
