This is getting pretty annoying at this point
Unplayable still, hope they are aware about this in the upcoming update
I occasionally experience this problem as well, and here’s what I think about it:
- Sound Stutters Are a Side Effect: The sound stutters aren’t the core problem but rather a side effect of an underlying issue.
- Not Caused by External Software: In my view, this is not primarily due to Windows settings, drivers, or other software. It’s an issue within MSFS itself.
- Correlation with Peak Usage Times: From my experience, the problem strongly correlates with peak MSFS usage times (EU and US evenings, weekends). This suggests it’s related to content streaming. This also explains why some think they’ve found a solution, only to have the issue reappear later.
- Replication Scenario: To replicate the issue, I recommend using the Zurich Discovery Flight (in Activities). The fast flying over photogrammetry in this activity often triggers the problem.
- Need for Streaming-Bottleneck Testing: Developers should simulate streaming bottlenecks and optimize the sim to handle them gracefully. It’s clear the sim isn’t currently equipped to deal with such situations, as evidenced by the launch issues, among others.
There’s nothing to add to that.
These lags occur whenever the game’s bandwidth is accessed and the data is fed into the game. This can undoubtedly be seen in the utilization. I almost suspect the rolling cache mechanism because there is also a write/read sequence to disk when there is a lag. Unfortunately Asobo didn’t allows to deactivate the cache but well the game is still in the alpha phase, maybe that’s coming.
So the problem comes 100% from the game and has nothing to do with your system at all, so it saves you all the effort of looking for something on your system.
Yep - Now we just need to hope that Asobo read this thread, decide to do something about it, find the problem and then get around to fixing it…
I’m not holding my breath.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• It is definitely linked to the FPS drops.
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

I had that symptoms too, but only since the beginning of 2025. Before everything went fine.
I remembered updating my audio driver on jan 6. I deinstalled any realtek stuff, which was updated by MSI Center. Tadaaaa! Problem solved!
Mainboard: MSI B650 Tomahawk with AMD 7600X3D.
I don’t mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but if it’s the issue being discussed here, it’s likely to return when you hit a period of high server usage.
I would say the same - I have pretty good hardware and software knowledge and have already tried various tricks, you change something and think - ‘oh’ problem solved - one week I had nothing so far and since yesterday I have dropouts again - it can sporadically also depend on the hardware but rather with the server load, but it also depends on the rolling cache - as described above, so it definitely has to do with the MSFS - as SBSx9 also said - I also don’t want to slow down your enthusiasm - but I wouldn’t get too excited too soon!
To add to that, I have 0 issues in any other games. Surely if we all had such random hardware or software specific bugs it would be a system wide problem that would not only affect msfs2024. I 100% also think it’s the sim itself. I’m just wondering how some streamers and YouTubers are getting pretty rock solid performance and many of us are not.
This last weekend I downgraded from 24H2 to 23H2 using this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7Jwu4j8uSw. It worked flawlessly and I no longer have the audio stutters. I did have to do a complete re-install so make sure you backup any data that you need from your C Drive. After Windows did all of it’s updates I paused the updates for 5 weeks so that 24H2 does not come back, hopefully they will have a fix by then.
Hey all,
I’d suggest only reporting success here after at least one week of flying and 20 hours of flight time. I’ve been certain many times that I’d solved this issue, only to have it reappear, after days of perfect performance.
As explained above, this problem is very likely tied to a pseudorandom variables outside of your control—namely, streaming capacities.
Don’t worry, that’s not the case At least, all the streamers I regularly watch experience the same issues, if not worse—like CTDs. They’ll have a series of good flights and then an awful one. They think they’ve solved it, only to encounter a slideshow during landing.
Of course, if someone only flies over water, they’ll have a smooth experience. But in dense areas with photogrammetry, we’re all in the same boat It’s also possible that what manifests as sound stutters on our setups could cause a CTD on a less capable system.
Today was maybe one of the worst sessions. Havent had the bug in a few days. Now it’s worse than ever. Flying near EDDK and over the city of Cologne with the fenix on mid to high settings. Massive sound stutters supplemented by some micro sim stutters. The latency jumps from around 100 to 170 during those cases. There must be something bugged within the game. I do not have this issue in any other game. I restarted the simulator and did the exact same over EDDK and the city of Cologne and the sound crackling/stutters are suddenly gone. This is so strange. So this issue seems to reapear from time to time. Maybe it cannot handle loading certain areas of the world/PG?
rtx 4070 ti super (12 GB).
On my systems I can reproduce the issue with the realtek audio drivers offered by MSI. After deinstalling them - problem really solved. I had about 5 flights with ~12 h flying time only in the late afternoon or evening.
In my case the audio stutters correlate with streaming of the sim. Whenever it streams the audio stuttering was horribile. Audio stuttering was really hard when I changed my view rapidly f.e.
I think that there my be different reasons for that stuttering symptom and they may correlate with audio drivers or a specific driver’s feature or whatever. High latency audio issues is a deepdive field and not easy to solve. Hopefully asobo will sort these audio stuttering reasons out with the next big patch.
I had the same experience today, at EDDF in my case. This further strengthens the suspicion that this is a server/CDN streaming issue.
Most likely, the assets were already in the Rolling Cache, fewer users were streaming at the time, or both.
Sorry to say, but that’s still not enough time to consider the issue resolved. By the way, does anyone else here also use the Realtek audio drivers provided by MSI?
Yes my system uses the MSI Realtek Audio drivers. I have the Nvidia Audio drivers disabled. What is funny is that I do not use any audio drivers because I have a USB headset that I use instead. If the stutters come back on 23H2 I will remove both the Audio drivers and see if that does anything.
System:
9800X3d Undervolt of -30 No current Overclock
MSI 670E Gaming plus Wifi MOBO (12/3/24 BIOS, all chipset and drivers using MSI Updater)
64gb Gskill NEO 6000 CL30 in Expo 1
RTX 3080 10gb using 566.14
The tip posted by joewinter80 is worth trying – remove all Realtek audio software. In my case, I uninstalled the Realtek Audio Console and the initial results were promising. But this issue definitely needs to be tested repeatedly over several days, as it tends to return like a chronic illness
For quick verification, I recommend the Zurich Scenic Trip under Activities. Fingers crossed, and if this works, we owe joewinter80 a beer. Or maybe an RTX 5090 from Asobo for solving this mystery/misery?
I updated my bios, all drivers and whatnot. The issue still persists. This does not happen in any other game. I hope they adress this issue.
But at the end - you’re right too. My audio stutters were back today, after days of stutterfree flying. Crazy. Today the stutter correlates with 100% CPU load, especially when I moved my head fast (Tobii eye tracker) or changed the view via mouse. I have a six core AMD 7600X3D only.
Search on youtube for this video (can’t link): ’ Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: Fix Sound/Audio Not Working, Crackling/Distorted/Audio Problem’
The steps in that video are quite similar with my approach → editing/resetting sound driver.
After that steps - stutters gone. How long?
