[August 24, 2023] Expert Series I: ATR 42-600 / 72-600 Update 1.0.31

Already know about that, but AFAIK, the 600S is still in it’s certification phase, which means that prototypes may fly, but it’s not in service

Thanks ill keep an eye out for that.

The turn around bug is still there for me. using the prop brake screws up the prop animation. the prop is technically spinning but it looks like it isn’t. So i get the correct performance but the right prop is not animated properly. This is clearly a bug that needs to be addressed.

Seems like there’s just an inherent issue / bug with simvars and aircraft configuration for the ATR in MSFS. Whenever you turnaround the aircraft there’s bugs, but also whenever you QUIT a flight and reenter the aircraft from the main menu the configuration is corrupt in the new session. This is similar stuff you’d see with the Aerosoft CRJ.

Mate I have exactly the same issue as you. I haven’t tried starting it 1st though.

Are others still getting the prop blades wind sound with engine in hotel mode?

I’ve see a bug report I’ve voted for, but very few votes which is odd.

Can’t actually remember, will listen again next time I fly it. I mean, there are so many issues with it, it’s hard to keep track.

For example, when flying with the autopilot in alt mode and dialling in a lower altitude, the plane starts a descent immediately. I would accept that in vnav (even though only after tod) but the problem also is, I have no clue what the real thing does.

Anyone else seeing that the ATR72 wont exceed 195 even if you set CRZ MODE manually (say to 210kts). I am not limited by weight but the PEC system is limiting TQ based on (what seems like) a hardcoded 195kts when youre in NOTCH

I am able to cruise at ~205kts without any problem (18000 ft, ~40% payload). The CRZ MODE (or any other engine management mode) has nothing to do with speed, it controls engine TQ and prop rpm. I am not sure what you mean by saying ‘set CRZ MODE manually to 210 kts’, ATR has no auto throttle.

Apologize if the question has been asked a million times already.

Can the MFD windows in the ATR be “popped out” by pressing the right ALT key and left clicking the window on the Xbox or is this a PC thing only?

Thanks

I found two bugs:

  1. Some people have mentioned it already: the FOB and GW indications in the MFD are stuck and don’t refresh during flight.

  2. Kind of a deal breaker for multiple leg operation: After finishing a first flight, you can’t set up a second one because many FMS inputs won’t work. For example you can’t change the cruise altitude to a lower FL. Unfortunately therefore I am unable to perform a simple turnaround flight.

About this second bug, you can change these FMS values as soon as you start engine in hotel mode for the second leg (at least, in my setup, I have done it several times). So (in my setup), YES, it is possible to run multi-leg flights.

An a couple of extra bugs I have found (none is a deal breaker, but I think they could easily be solved):

  • The calculations shown in the PROG page of the MCDU are (often) wrong. The total flight distance is usually 7 - 8 Nm too long (you can see that when you are on ILS, DME is 7 miles, and the PROG page shows perhaps 15 miles of flight distance). The time to TOD is often wrong (for example it may show 4 Nm to TOD and 4 minutes to TOD; if the plane flies at 200 KTS, 4 miles will be covered in about one minute).
  • Pressing “SET PAYLOAD” in the first page of the EFB seems to do nothing. I need to go to the MSFS weight menu and adjust the payload there, to keep the intended plane gross weight.

Same if you close all doors, then FMS values can suddenly be changed again.

Yes… SET PAYLOD is not working. Only SET FUEL works correctly. They should improve interaction between EFB and the aircraft. I like this aircraft but is so bugged…

You fly with PLs in the notch. When close to the magenta speed bug (calculated by the fms), then set CRZ on the PWR MGT panel. NP should stay around 82%, but TQ can dip / change. Keep it in CLB till at the magenta bug.

OK, next question… PARKING BRAKE
Bug or me not doing things right?
I have the TCA Quadrant parking brake lever mapped to MSFS Parking Brake (default for the TCA). This works with all planes (including the ATR).
However, in the ATR, the “Emergency / Parking Brake Lever” does not visually move when I change the lever in the Airbus TCA Quadrant.
So, to start moving the plane, I need to use the physical lever in my quadrant, and to use the mouse to drag the virtual lever in the cockpit. And same goes for parking the plane.
Is there some workaround for this, to use a binding for the physical control which also moves the lever in the virtual cockpit?

With regard to changing payload - instead of using the Set Payload on the EFB Flight Plan Tab
Go to the Payload Tab and press the Load Payload Button. This brings up a seperate window where you can adjust Zero Fuel Weight and Fuel Weight - then just press the start loading button on the same window. I do this for all my flights. You can also press set T.O. Trim after the loading is done.

Yes, I know this solution, but I have read somewhere else in this forum that this may freeze the EFB…
So, instead, I open the MSFS payload dialog box and drag the payload slider to get the approximate gross weight I have in SIMBRIEF
