AuralunaOne's CRJ Cockpit Restoration Package (Released)

I still have a few little odds and ends to tweak, but I spent some (okay a lot) of time reworking the VC textures. While the Aerosoft CRJ is indeed a wonderful product I did feel that there was a bit of a cartoonish look to it. I’ve reworked them.

At this point the thing looks like a brand new airplane off the assembly line. If people are interested in these textures let me know and I will put them on the flightsim.to when I’m done.

Update: 7-31

The seat back mesh fabric took some work.

Great work. Please share!

Thank you. :slightly_smiling_face: For sure I’ll share them when they’re done (likely by end of this week). Though I prefer the “brand new” clean look I wonder if others would prefer at least some appearance of use, like shiner areas on the flight director where hands are always touching and such. I’m open to suggestions on what people would like to see in that regard and then perhaps there can be two texture sets to choose from.

I prefer the more wear and tear textures, as it gives a more natural/realistic experience.

I will go ahead and make both sets. I’m getting pretty close to finishing the “new” look and I’ll be able to get some wear into them from there. I thought I was about done but got stalled by some weird issues getting the mesh fabric to look correct. I want to get everything exactly right before putting it out there.

Does anyone know if that flashlight is supposed to be yellow?

The “new” look textures are coming soon. I have a few more things to take care of, most of which will be finished tonight and then I need to work on all the screws. It will be the first iteration and then a “used” and more worn look version will come after. Though I think there are others working on some real worn looking ones. It’s been an enormous amount of work but I really think it’s worth it…it’s looking amazing (better than the screenshots I’ve provided in previous messages).

Updated 8-19 with a couple screen shots of the pedestal.

I really am getting very close to done with this. On the final pass on all of them for noted details and working out a lighting issue under specific conditions. I’m going to add a couple optional things as well. It’ll take a little bit to put the package and instructions together (perhaps I may make an installer).

Some details in this screenshot featuring the pedestal are up for tweaking still, like the carpet and will be different in final package. Cloudy day on this pic.

Just a couple/few days away.

Update 8-29 1235 Pacific - I expect to get the package out by this evening (Friday Pacific Time)

Update 8-29 2100 Pacific

While doing a final inspection before testing in both sims I found a couple things that are just simply not good enough and I’ll have to do some touching up. It’s really just about there. I still need to make the installer for the package so my hope is that it’ll be done later tomorrow evening or Sunday afternoon. I’m just not going to put it out there until I think it’s good enough.

The package will include optional carpet colors and optional clipboard logos (Carpet: Grey, Dark Grey, Blue; Logos: “CRJ Series”, Canadair Regional Jet oval, or blank for the side clipboard, and “CRJ Series”, Canadair Regional Jet oval, or Checklist on the yoke clipboards).

Update on the restoration package.

The texture rework for the cockpit restoration is complete and ready to package for 2024. Since 2020 renders things a little differently, there needs to be some adjustments to the texture set for 2020. The 2024 set will take advantage of the KTX2 format so there will already be two separate sets. This leaves a little question for those who are interested in this package:

I can finish up the installer tonight/early tomorrow and post the package for 2024 only as soon as it’s done and post an update to the package for 2020 a few days/a week or so later, or I can wait to post it until the 2020 adjustments are done.

Personally I’m fine with the 2024 version release first…

I actually had to just hit the brakes today after finishing up with the textures as I had pretty much spent the entire past month working on them almost every single day for many hours a day, and had pretty much let everything else go so I spent the day cleaning the house. It’s been the largest project I’ve ever worked on for sure and I kept thinking I was done and then finding more things that weren’t right. And even tonight I found something in the final textures that wasn’t right. So it might still be an extra day but I’m doing my best to get it out there within the next day or two.

It is a nearly 100% complete overhaul of everything in the cockpit, down to every screw and even the flashlight, though there are plenty of carryovers from the originals that really didn’t have much of anything wrong with them.

Could you post some differences pictures with and without your modifications?

Sure. I found one more little QA failure that I have to fix today but I know what’s up with it and it’ll take a couple hours. The Phillips head screws. They’ve not been the eaiest thing in the world to make look right.

I’ll do up a few before and afters once I get that corrected.

It took me all day and night to basically fully redo the screws. Not the most fun thing to have had to do after I thought the texturing work was finished.

Here are a few before and afters.

A few more screws to go and then I’ll get the installer and package built. (I just noticed that the little wing shaped emboss on the mic is missing in the above photo but it is indeed there in the texture.)

Just thought I’d give a couple more pics. I actually noticed a couple things in the previous screenshots that were not right, namely the vents. But now I have given it the final, final inspection and it has passed my OCD scrutiny so I’m now working on the optional decals for the clipboards and writing up the installer. Next post will be to say that it’s available for download.

Looks amazing.

Looking forward to it.

A post was split to a new topic: Auraluna

I didn’t get as much of an opportunity to work on it this weekend as I typically do. Well I did to some degree but for a time I was trapped near the inner circle of thought. Both 2020 and 2024 versions of the base textures are complete, and getting the classic Canadair Regional Jet oval in place was the task today along with getting the other options set as well. It’s all about coding the installer from here.

Recent events this past week have essentially sucked the life out of me and I have yet to get the installer made. I don’t want to keep dangling it here so… some discipline tomorrow on getting the installer done is in order, but I will release it with or without the installer tomorrow night.

Sorry it’s taken a little longer than I imagined it would.

I battled out this thing finally.

I hope you like it. :slightly_smiling_face:

If anyone has any problems with it, I’m here to help.
