Aussie Flight Group Team - Japan: Toshima to Nagasaki

This scenic adventure sees us taking off from Suwanosejima airport in Toshima (RJX8) for a scenic flight to Nagasaki airport (RJFU). During the flight we will take in views of Yakushima, Minamitane, Nakatane, Nishinoomote, Minamiosumi, Kinko, Kanoya, Tarumizu, Kirishima, Kajiki, Satsuma, Izumi, Reihoku and Nagasaki. There are a number of airports that we will fly over and can perform touch and goes or full stop landings along the route. This will be the first of many flights, as we work our way through the Japanese scenery in MSFS.

Details to follow. All welcome, hope you can join us.

Regards, Paul

IMPORTANT: As Suwanosejima is a small airport, you need to connect early and fly the route from Suwanosejima to Yakushima, as there isn’t enough space to commence on this airport. Why did I pick it? It is one of the hand crafted airports and is worth the visit. The scenery along the route is also very nice. So allow time to get to Yakushima, where we will assemble and commence the remainder of the flight.

So the first leg would be everybody in their own pace, and then we would regroup at Yakushima?

Correct. There are just too many of us to group at Suwanosejima.

Aircraft: Select any fast single or twin GA aircraft for the event.
IMPORTANT: In the interest of keeping it REAL, please refrain from selecting inappropriate aircraft, like airliners. This only detracts from the immersion of the flight.

Seeing Aircraft Correctly: You need to do two things to ensure you can see the other pilots in the event and see them in the aircraft they selected.

Select the same server: To do this, proceed as follows:

  • From the Welcome Screen, click on your Username (top right)
  • From the list of servers, under Servers, select WEST USA

Turn off Generic Planes: To do this, proceed as follows:

  • From the Welcome Screen, click on OPTIONS
  • Click on GENERAL
  • With GRAPHICS selected, scroll down to the last option and set USE GENERIC PLANE MODELS to OFF

Voice Room: Discord for Official MSFS Community: Event #1 or Event #2 are the voice rooms available to us. I need to see which is available on the day and reserve it. I will be in the room and get it authorised for our use. Just look for my Userid: VHFIB to determine which room to enter.

Note: if you are new to the Discord Server for MS FS, you will need to “react” to get access to the voice rooms.

To “react”, once in the Discord for Official MS FS, click on the Important - Info option and at the very bottom, click on the button (last item at the bottom of the screen) to react and provide access. Note: clicking on the button accepts the conditions etc., which you can read via the available links.

Weather/Time: We will set the time 12hrs prior, i.e., 8am. This will allow us to fly in daylight and choose CLEAR Weather, so can enjoy the scenery:

  1. From the World Map view, click on Flight Conditions (upper right of screen)
  2. Click on All Players, Live Traffic, Custom
  3. Under Weather and Time, select Clear Weather and move the time slide bar to show 8:00am or say 7:45am if you arrive at 7:45pm (12hrs prior to current time).
  4. Click Close and Fly from the World Map view.

We can start departing from 8pm. There will be no need for official radio calls. Lets just have some fun taking in the scenery and the social aspects of the event.

Multiplayer Map: Currently, the VFR map won’t show Live players, so if you get lost, it’s difficult to find where the other flyers are. The free multiplayer map, will show the other players (that are using the map) and allow you to see their heading, speed, altitude and callsign. But it will only show those using the map. The below map tool is excellent but only as good as the volume of people using it.

Not mandatory but if you would like to use this map, see the below for details:

Link to moving map: https://events.flighttracker.tech/ 12 13 23 17 22 32

Once viewing the map, click on Join to download the client that connects MSFS for tracking your flights. Note the .NET Core Windows Runtime requirement that needs installing also.

Let me know if there’s anything else that I’ve missed that you need to know.

Regards, Paul

There’s some confusion about the time of the event. The forum title says 23:00 CET (my time), but your post says 11:00 CET tomorrow (my time). Which one is the correct one?

Both appear correct to me. Sydney time 8pm, which is 09:00z (used to be 10:00z before we went to daylight savings time).

Strange, in my timezone it’s also showing as 23:00 CET (21:00z). Such a shame, was looking forward to it!

For me it’s showing as starting in 7 minutes.

There’s even a few of us chilling at Yakushima.

I’m guessing a mistake was made with the forum event time.

I’ve got 16th oct 0800 (gmt+11) sydney. Perhaps there is a fault with the forums?
Either way, i’ll see you all at 20 oclock tonight

BUGGA! Sorry Guys. Don’t know what happened. I did what I’ve done for each flight. The only difference is the change to daylight savings.

Just took a look at creating an event. I must have selected 8:00 instead of scrolling down to 20:00. That’s the only thing that makes any sense. My post further down lists the correct time as it allows AM/PM to be added to the time. Again sorry for the mixup.

Just went to apply any updates in preparation for tonight and for the first time I can’t start Flight Sim after doing the Store update.

It’s coming up with a weird message “You’re too early” like it did before MSFS was launched.

Done all the usual trouble shooting to no avail.

Have submitted a ticket and don’t want to do an uninstall and reinstall until, hopefully, I hear back.

In the meantime if anyone has any ideas would be pleased to hear them.

Unless it gets fixed soon won’t be seeing you in the air tonight unfortunately

I remember speaking on this forum with someone else who had that same exact error message, he tried all sorts of things to fix it to no avail. In the end he contacted Microsoft support who gave him a file to run which fixed the issue.

Thanks for letting me know @FlavorFlav365

I have a support ticket in at the moment and hopefully they can do the same for me.

Looks like no Sushi for me tonight unfortunately.

Thanks for the nice route and flight!
I chose to use live weather and initially it looked good, but Nagasaki had thick rain clouds.
Anyhow, I enjoyed the opportunity having a day off, otherwise the time is not very suitable for Europeans

(oh and I still use generic models for other aircraft since there’s still some bugs with the non-generic ones unfortunately…)

Thanks for the pics. The trouble with a global interest like this is you are always going to exclude some areas that can’t attend due to the time. Hope you can attend another flight in the future (when convenient to do so) YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME …
