PNG Highland Bush Flying — Full‑Stop Landings Only

Cruise: 10,500 ft Break: 15 min at Kiunga (AYLR) Sim Time: 08:00 AM Aircraft: Kodiak 100 / C208 Caravan

:sun_behind_small_cloud: Overview

Leg 14 takes us from the lowland basin into the rugged Papua New Guinea highlands. This is a pure bush‑pilot challenge: steep terrain, narrow valleys, sloped runways, and one‑way‑in approaches. Every strip on this leg is a full‑stop landing — no touch‑and‑goes — to reflect real‑world PNG operations where go‑arounds are often impossible.

:small_airplane: Aircraft

Kodiak 100 / C208 Caravan

  • Strong climb performance for 10,500 ft terrain clearance
  • Short‑field capable for high‑altitude strips
  • High‑wing visibility for ridge navigation
  • Stable in turbulence and valley winds

:round_pushpin: Waypoint Descriptions (Full‑Stop Landings)

AYUKI — Kiunga (Departure)

Depart the Fly River basin and begin the climb toward rising terrain.

AYRG — Rumginae

Short, narrow, tree‑lined strip. Expect soft‑field braking and a committed approach.

AYHW — Haewenai

One‑way‑in valley strip. Terrain rises rapidly behind the runway — full stop required.

AYOV — Olsbip

Entry point into the central ranges. Ridge turbulence likely on final.

AYUY — Kuyol

Compact plateau strip. Short rollout and tight departure path.

AYLT — Kiunga (Alternate)

Full‑stop landing before repositioning to AYLR for the break.

AYLR — Kiunga (Break)

15‑minute rest stop. Apron space, refuel, regroup before entering the highlands proper.

AYTR — Agali

High‑altitude strip with a steep, narrow approach. No safe go‑around.

AYKG — Kopiago

Mountain basin with limited maneuvering room. Expect downdrafts.

AYPB — Paiela

Short, sloped runway. Full‑stop mandatory due to terrain funnel.

AYPE — Kairik (Finale)

Remote highland strip surrounded by misted peaks. Challenging but rewarding finish.

What is the difference between this event and the other publiched? Apart from the days I see only (NH) and (SH) in the end of the title. What does it stand for? Sorry but English is not my native language.

I’m repeating the event across two timeslots to support the Northern Hemisphere pilots and the Southern Hemisphere Pilots - (NH & SH).
