I had hoped, that WU6 would clean up the Austrian ground. But this did not happen. In some valleys, there are still snow textures in July, while close summits are snow-free. I also observe quite different ground resolutions in some parts of Austria. If both come together, low resolution with snow next to high-resolution w/o snow it can look really bad. Are the Bing data of Austria so different, or are there other reasons why it is so inconsistent?

Yeah I agree. There’s also an awful part in the Inn valley between Landeck and the Swiss border where there are no textures at all and you can see the borders between textures for miles. Gruesome to look at.

I would vote on this. The area around Tirol has seen no updated textures, even after Austria was supposed to have been updated. The imagery must be at least 6 years old, if not more.

This kind of terrain is especially tricky given it’s more weather sensitive. Even if you look at Google Maps which is generally deemed to be better in this part of the world there are some rough patches with various issues.
Either you spend extra resources on trying to get better data, which I would assume is rather expensive or difficult to use in a commercial product, depending on the source…or you try to correct areas by hand which is not only very time consuming but also difficult to get right.
Not saying it’s impossible and we might get better data down the line from Bing, but I don’t think it’s very likely to spend special resources on this.
Your best hope is to wait and hope for updated Bing data.
There was an add-on for FSX and P3D that gave better aerial resolution and clear textures without snow, clouds, white/grey patches or other incosistencies. Although the default mesh, lightning, autogen and weather in these simulators was far from what we see in MSFS in the above mentioned category the Austria Professional HD addon from flugwerk.at was superior to what we see here. I would also like to see these things changed when doing a mandatory worldupdate or provide a hotfix if better aerial images are available later on. So far the Austria Update gave me some new POIs, and a photogrammetry Vienna, and maybe a mesh of better resolution. Not too impressive if you fly through partly patchworked environment 
. What actually bothers me the most is that one of the most beautiful regions of this country, the Salzkammergut, is a complete mess.

Sorry, can you enlighten us why it should be a terrible topic for a vote? At least from my point of view the bing data needs to get better in quality, not only in Austria. And in even older sims there was better data available already. If there is no better data available (which is definitely not true for the discussed region and which I tend to doubt) why not generate it?
I am not sure how this works. Sorry for not being of any help here. I can only imagine that this stting needs to be set while opening the respective thread. Not sure if it can be done afterwards. Anyways I would vote for this.

Ok I get your point, but I still believe there might be better data available (maybe not on Bing or Google maps). I will try to make comparison shots in P3dv4 (with the Austrian Professional HD Addon) and MSFS2020. Unfortunately I have a broken ankle and cannot sit in front of my desktop PC, so this might take a few more days.
The above mentioned addon is available via flugwerk.at and was at least covering the whole area of austria without showing sharp edges, poor colours, snow coverage, etc. Some screenshots can be seen on thehomepage, but the respective areas of poor bing map coverage are not displayed there. So I guess there might be a source for better images and have read so on other forums that those exist for Switzerland as well. Do not know about Italy, but there wa a decent product for Slovenia as well.
That is not true, we have very detailed arial ortho images in Austria…
here for example for Upper Austria (one of the 9 federal states):

The problem is, in Austria the data is handled by the 9 individual federal states. Therefore it is not that easy for a third party to obtain the data.
The orthos provided in MSFS (and therefore in Bing) aswell as the orthos in Google maps are very outdated and poor - the data although exists. Our maps in Austria are usually updated every 2 months.
The other Problem is: the orthos before the WU6 were not ideal, that is true, but in many regions of the country far better as they are after WU6
