Auto Exposure bug seems to be back

I’ve noticed that the Auto Exposure bug seems to be back although not as bad as before.

When panning the view from dark to light areas and vice versa you can see the exposure changing, and can often make the time of day seem completely different depending on where the camera is looking.

For example.

I just took off from Frankfurt.

The cockpit was actually lighter in thick dark clouds than when I broke out of them into the light because as the outside was dark, the sim was adjusting the exposure so much that the cockpit was really light.

Then when I came out of the clouds and into the light, the cockpit became much darker because as lots of the screen (looking through the windows) was light, the sim drastically reduced the exposure.

This was previously fixed, I think in SU3, but seems to be back now.

Yeah, I agree. I was flying in Seattle not too long ago and it just seemd too bright:

and Seattle continues to look not good.

and then a sunrise at Vancouver where it was just overly bright considering the sun had yet to actually rise:

Yeah it’s really disappointing that they’ve added this bug back.

Whenever you have found a working way to ensure this not to happen in software development please share it with the world and get ready to be the richest person ever.

I may tell you that developers usually don’t add bugs back to software on purpose - the only exception to this is whenever the outcome of a bug is considered useful or entertaining but harmless.

Roger, will do.

Definitely back, had some gaps in clouds where the sun was shining onto the ground, and the ground there was just absolutely whitewashed, completely over exposed..

You can also see the ground completely changing brightness exposure when panning the camera.

I can finally relax today with a flight after a tough week at work, so I’ll check if that auto-exposure bug has returned.
BTW, what value do you have Exposure Compensation EV set to?

SU4 1.6.19.0 over exposure still present. Seems to be worse as I dialled down settings to -1 and still looked washed out.

I’ve not been seeing this on my PC, so it may be restricted to specific graphics cards / settings. This was taken in the .19 build with EV set at -1:

I have this BUG at my end, BETA .19. Exposure in VR -0.3 and flew from Daytime into Nighttime LFMN to FACT, at arrival at nights I had exptreme bright Airport Lights (Completely white and bright) and my Cockpit turned Dark-Black)

While we do have the Exposure setting in the Options – and as I see it, its use is mandatory right now – the problem is that lowering the setting enough to prevent bright areas like the distant sky or sunlit patches in this pic:

from being too bright and washed out white, the same settings allow the cloud shadows to become too dark:

Yeah but this setting does not stop the exposure changing when you move the camera.

It’s just a setting for the base level of exposure.

Xp12 has figured out this issue pretty well and I like their colors more. I wish MS/Asobo would figure it out. XP does have too much haze though imo. I like the sunny brightness of FS (either one) but there’s no need to over-expose stuff to bright white. The really sad part is that they are more likely to be working on a fictitious Avenger’s plane than trying to make this better. (screenshot it)

This issue is still present in the latest beta.

Same. Doesn’t feel right. I think it was fine in SU1 after the first few updates but it has been steadily regressing since. They really need to sit down and go back to the drawing board with the HDR and auto exposure levels both during the day, at night, and at times when the sun is low. With the sun low, that’s when we seem to see the most issues.

Have you, by the way, tried reducing the exposure compensation value? I have mine at -1 and things are generally looking good at different times of day.
