Auto Pilot Violently Banks Plane Sending Into Free Fall

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Brief description of the issue:

Occasionally when using auto pilot and following the GPS route, the plane will bank violently in one direction almost turning the plane upside down and sending into free fall. I have experienced this twice on two separate flights. I can not be certain, but appears that it may happen directly after switching on FLC mode in an attempt to change altitude.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

It appears that it is an uncommon event and does not always take place, but on both occasions auto pilot was following the GPS route to destination and FLC mode was activated.

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

Do you have a sufficient “deadzone” in your controller?
If not, this can (and does) cause this to happen.
I have seen amounts up to 15% required.

Thank you for the swift reply. I have just checked this now and both the left and right analogues currently have 14% deadzone, unless I would need more than that?

It can’t hurt to try.
It is a very common solution to this issue.

Sometimes multiple controllers can cause this as well, do you have more than one controller plugged in?

Not at the moment.

If you do and this happens when they are plugged in, this could cause it as well!

I have the same problem. At the moment it occurs in 95% of planned IFR flights with the autopilot.
I use the Garmin 1000Nxi in the Beach Bonanza G36, Cessna Caravan and different of it in the TBM Daher.
I create my flight plan on the dashboard of the plane. Departing my home base, climbing to a certain altitude, aligning with the GPS needle and then hitting the AP button followed with the NAV button. The aircraft stumbles , banks and then went spiralling down.
Another phenomenon is that if the aircraft is on course - with AP - after a while the AP quits its functuin.

In essence, it sounds legit but on the other hand: It is possible to ‘override’ the Autopilot with manual input but at first, the system will fight back.
Finding the sweetspot in controls sensitivity/deadzones can be a struggle and may vary between different types of aircraft.

As far as I understand it, I do not override the -AP when I first bring the aircraft on course and then I activate the AP followed by the NAV.

FWIW - I am experiencing the same issue under the similar conditions.

I’ve noticed it tends to happen on mine when I leave in auto pilot, then use LB on the controller (Xbox) to enable free look. The act of me moving the camera down to the instruments in free look mode occasionally send the plane into free fall, possibly in the same direction I moved the camera
