Autogen buildings completely disappeared globally

As per the title, I have zero autogen buildings. Trees & vegetation still show up.

So far I have:

  • Deleted and disabled cache & all other potentially relevant files including content.xml, DXcache, Nvidia cache, etc.

  • Emptied community folder

  • Disabled/re-enabled online services settings and individual settings one by one (Online data in total, Bing World, PG)

  • Re-enabling cache. (No difference, turned it off again)

  • Tried specific addons to see if it made a difference

  • Reinstalled Volanta plugins (bug seemed to appear after I deleted the aerocache folders from the community folder, which were present despite having aerocaches disabled, but reinstalling them made no difference)

  • Everything else I could think of short of a full re-install. (troubleshot it last night for hours, forget everything I tried now.)

(Except verify files with Steam, because it doesn’t actually do any verification, it just deletes half the install, has been bugged forever. And MSFS is roughly verifying files every launch anyway - it usually prompts user if some are missing. But I imagine it might not do CRC.)

Edit: In the end I tried a verify files from Steam, and it said it was missing files, because it deletes them itself due to the bug, which it then redownloaded, and gave the all clear. But expectedly, it made no difference, and none of files actually changes, they were just deleted and then redownloaded for no reason.

As a last resort I’m going to try launching with the Volanta aerocaches both installed and enabled (I had them disabled previously) but if that doesn’t work I think I’m out of ideas how this could happen.

Edit: having aerocaches enabled made no difference.

Is there a global autogen building file I can delete and have redownloaded?
It seems like maybe something is corrupted but the game doesn’t realise.

Any tips or hints appreciated, thank you.

I’d rather avoid fully reinstalling because I will have to go through the content manager and uninstall all the packages I don’t want again, which is a real pain because of the sluggish, glitchy UI, and poorly implemented downloader/installer which only downloads and decompresses one file at a time. Took me a tediously long time to do previously, mostly just waiting for the unresponsive UI to sort itself out. And now I remember it glitched mid run for some reason and I had to go back and re-select everything… don’t want to relive that. And with everything installed the load times are way longer while it loads 100 handcrafted airports that I highly doubt anybody ever needs installed for every session. Makes me think need to use an addon-linker for the core files too, but I’ve never tried that.

Also, deleting cache didn’t work in game, I had to manually go and delete the .CCC file. Every time I disabled it there was an error (cache not set to valid value) as the game seemed to set the size to 0 before actually disabling it. And then despite it displaying as disabled in the UI, the CCC file was still present. The constant flow of small bugs like this very frustrating, especially when the devs/publisher have moved onto the next game, and a 2020 is left in a semi-working state. Both games desperately need a dedicated bug pass and UI/QoL redesign.

Well the saga continues.

Trying a partial reinstall of these folders:

fs-base
fs-base-cgl
fs-base-cgl-minimal
fs-base-genericairports
microsoft-modellib-airport-generic
microsoft-modellib-texture

Only 78GB to reinstall, better than 300GB+

Of course, if the CDN was faster/reliable, and the installer was multithreaded, 300GB wouldn’t be an issue anyway.

Currently downloading at only 25% of my connection speed. It’s 3am here and there would be almost zero congestion. The classic MSFS installer experience.
