Autopilot A320neo engaging

I engage autopilot using the overhead toolbar when I engage it in the cockpit the plane goes everywhere lol

The overhead toolbar is your Artificial Intelligence copilot, not the plane’s autopilot.
Once you enable that to fly the plane, you’ve relinquished control to your copilot.

Undo that, then you control the plane, and will be able to use the autopilot.

No I want to use the autopilot but when I use the autopilot in the cockpit the plane goes everywhere so I use the toolbar autopilot and it works fine :slightly_smiling_face: why is that

Your not actually using auto pilot in that tool box. Your assigning all tasks to a virtual co pilot If that makes sense.

What do you mean It goes everywhere? Have you set up a flight plan?

No. On the the computer its no letting me select anything

That would depend on how you programmed the MCDU ( the keypad on the pedestal).
You would need to make a plan in the world planner, and complete all the steps to set up the MCDU.
Then you have to know how to use the autopilot.
You need to be familiar with the Airbus logic of push/pull on the knobs.
Pull toward you (bottom click a knob) means you have control over that particular function, push (top click) means the plane controls it, based on what you have programmed into the MCDU.
I recommend you watch some Utube vids that go over how to do this.

I plan via low altitude Airways on world map so surely all that information will already be on the mcu?

Yes, it is. But to get that to work in the airplane, there are programming steps in the MCDU that you need to do as well.
You need to initialize the MCDU, also, select your departure runway and SID, as well as set your initial preferences.
Then you need to confirm the FCU display (autopilot display on the glareshield) it must look like
“dash, dot, dash, dot, numbers, dot, dash,” which means
speed,armed,nav,armed,altitude set point,armed,vertical speed none.
Then you have to know the proper takeoff procedure.
Once you are airborne, and all this is done, the A/P will work correctly.
