After having flown quite some time with the jets available in the simulator, I can say that the autopilot is a glitchy hell.
Of course, it has its moments of brightness, today I saw a friend landing with ILS on EGLL and the landing was buttery smooth without his intervention, but these game’s glitches and bugs are way more pronounced do to the brilliance of the rest of the sim.
That’s why the auto thrust bugs are so significant. When you’re flying the 787, forget about turning VNAV off ever again, that’s unless you turn on FLC navigation, which overrides the previous one. Good luck, however, turning that one off. Also, the roughness of the maneuvers… I swear if an airliner was piloted like the way the AP pilots in the 320 and 787… they would simply retire them.
And my last must-do improvement is regarding flight plans. Today I was flying the route LFBD-KSEA, beautiful all throughout it, but when I got to KSEA and saw my autopilot following a flight plan which was not the one that the FMC had inputted. This led to a go-around, which resulted in a 10-hour flight ruined by that terrible experience, which would’ve otherwise been fantastic. I have no idea why that happened, but it might have something to do with the fact that when I changed the MAP to PLAN in the displays, it would take me to KSEA and controlling the LEGS in the FMC didn’t change the position on the display.
I would also want to ask you, the community if the wind displayed on the 787 is odd. And when I say odd, I mean always having tailwind wherever I go. Maybe this is just a miss understanding of how the display is meant to function but wanted to state it just in case.
That’s all, sorry for the long thread, and thank you for reading!
