That I can agree with. I think a lot of this stems from deployment errors on a rushed launch. And most of the telemetry that’s guiding their decision-making is behind a curtain, so we get breadcrumbs.
Sure, you can’t beat physics. That was a long time ago and we used a custom tweaked version of Ninjam. Playing on different continents (Japan/Canada in this case) is possible but due to the physics constraints it’s restricted to more groove based or ambient styles where you can cue the changes via different methods. Jazz comping at 160bpm isn’t going to work obviously, though perhaps someone out their might like the weird asynch jazz that would result. You never know now days![]()
I’d take that seriously if you didn’t get pejorative when someone disagrees with you. Accusing people of “Yucking”, negative thinking, and other digs because they bring up perfectly valid points about virtual world interaction doesn’t lend weight to your argument(s), it detracts.
Also accusing people of suppositions about walkaround mode is a stretch as well. Walkaround mode isn’t “half-hearted”. It’s a simple mode to do a simple a/c walkaround, that’s all. Limited feature set, limited interaction, designed to do one job and one job only. It’s tightly scoped to do one thing and one thing only., hence why it’s missing more advanced avatar features which are not needed for that. Not that I’ve noticed anyway.
People took that ball and ran with it and suddenly it’s “you can now walk around the world”. Well, sure you can, but that’s not the initial design intention. That’s taking a feature and bending it into other modes, which is commonly done but doesn’t make it officially supported. You can see that by the lack of features to do advanced interactions, the lack of official announcements, and the lack of documentation about it in the SDK docs.
I’m not sure why you feel a developer is needed to tell you that when the evidence is right in front of your eyes, but if that makes you sleep better at night then be my guest. Otoh they also haven’t said you can’t do it, which would also be pointless because they can’t stop people doing it. At least this way they get a nice list of todo’s from people doing experimental beta testing, so that’s a positive.
You could say they should have foreseen that scoped it accordingly, but that’s a far bigger job than “just” doing an a/c walkaround (which isn’t as trivial as it appears either, due to the interaction elements) but at least now they can see all the landscape/asset collision bugs/issues from people doing it, just like the experiments with driving/boating.
I’m sure they’ll do it one day though. Maybe soon, who knows. Vision takes time to implement.
I agree with the other posters who, while it’s a nice to have, there’s much more “must have” work to be done on the core aviation simulation product and finance/human resources should be allocated there.
I don’t think the parallel team argument works purely because they’re still obviously working on the autogen and asset integration. The scenery gateway/world hub silence is a bit of a tell here as well, and I think things will be in a much better position for full walkaround interaction when that is back on the release menu.
my 2 yen, but good luck with your mission anyway.
Your arguments started with strawmen and ad absurdum fallacies. This discussion began as a gripe about how WU22 POIs, which have detail that is meant to be seen up close, are not set correctly for avatars, which are already a game mode. The discussion about avatar mode diverged from there - my point is that it’s a shame it’s not more engaging and that the POIs in the WU highlighted a miss in that regard.
Regardless, Jorg literally presented avatar mode as the ability to walk around anywhere in the world, so for all the “insight” that’s being presented, it’s missing the mark. Good luck, indeed.
Folks, this topic is starting to
a) go off-topic with comments about music. Please do not derail the thread.
b) get personal.Let’s keep focused on the discussion at hand and avoid comments targeted at others.

Thank you.
Just because they stated a vision doesn’t make it reality when they release a limited feature implementation on the road to that vision. Didn’t we learn that with the release of 2024 already? (which they already admitted was, um, sub-optimal at best).
You can read the state of the sim by playing the sim and make your own judgement on feature useability based on issues discovered. Sure, we can hack it as well, as many devs do, but if it’s not “officially supported” in the docs or SDK then it’s basically experimental, with all the risks that go with that. That lesson has been there from the beginning, even before 2020.
I’m not going into the can of worms about developer plans and openness, suffice to say it is what it is.
They’re working on it, obviously, given the SU Beta’s and releases like WU22 so I’ll take my wins with what’s released, rather than what I’d like it to be.
