Aviator aircraft review, are they worth it?

Well after a very long time pondering the ATR, thanks to the Aviator Edition I now own it and am simply awaiting delivery.

The ATR is similar to the twin otter in that it is badly realised ina lot of respects but you just can’t stop flying it.

I’m going with the premium option. I don’t have interest in majority of the Aviatior additional plane, and especially now that we can selectively buy on a plane by plane basis from a lower level.

I just wish that you could use the planes already in 2020, since they are the same marketplace items.

Only one of them at the moment, and the rest we will have to wait for.

many are not even finished, so no way to release them already…

I’d like to think that’s not true, but it probably is.

few weeks ago they werent even sure which will make the release-deadline, and Jorg had to check that before releasing the content-list. So im pretty sure most of the planes, are still WIP at this point…

The list with the aircraft at release was planned to go public a month ago in the last dev stream, it didnt make it…

I thought developers were getting the SDK toolkit to convert what they have a month before release?

From today’s SDK stream: Dev Alpha build will be accessible on October 21st for Marketplace registered developers. Documentation will be made publicly available.

All of the Aviator block ones are already available in the marketplace though.

Yes that’s true. And Jorg said they will not update them for new 2024 features until after release. So yes it would be cool to have them now.

On the other hand I’ve preordered but it doesn’t charge my card until 10 days prior to the actual release, so I haven’t paid anything yet and am already flying the canadair. So if we had all of the 30 now that’d be kind of like getting them for free. What if you then cancelled the preorder? Probably too easy to abuse.

I just feel like it would be such a great way for them to push Aviator sales. “Buy Aviator and get the 30 planes already in 2020!”

Those planes would most likely be removed from your account, as if you had requested a refund via Zendesk.

It would be just like using a software trial, and then canceling when the trial period is over. They’d probably get a lot more sales if they allowed this for all Marketplace items. Then you wouldn’t feel like you were gambling each time you bought something.

From what I understand, if I just buy the Standard edition, my FS2020 Premium Deluxe planes that are in the Premium Deluxe or Deluxe editions of 2024 will not be upgraded. They’ll carry over to 2024, but they’ll be the legacy 2020 version unless I pay an upgrade fee to get the new version? I guess that’s reason to get the higher editions.

They’ve kind of said it both ways for 2024 ‘upgrades’. Jorg has said they will be upgraded, but for free or not is to be seen. There’s always that one little bit of the question missing on these things. Transfer yes!, upgraded versions yes!, free upgraded versions?(we forgot to ask)…Because 2020 and 2024 aircraft can apparently run concurrently in the sim. Hopefully the LL V35 they had in there as buy or upgrade was just an example placeholder for 3rd party developers’ MP options. They could of just put an imaginary shadow plane in there but it’s in there at it’s regular LL price with a $3.99 upgrade option. Zero mention of it being ‘an example’.

I already just bought PD again anyway-never considered any other way, but have still spent a considerable bit of time searching and squinting through the streams. It’s a little quirky looking for absolute specificity.

I do think it’s important to get an answer ‘YOU WILL GET THE PD AIRCRAFT FROM YOUR 2020 PREMIUM DELUXE PURCHASE UPGRADED TO THE NEW 2024 MODELING AND FEATURES AT NO COST’. I mean people are making purchasing decisions based on this, I’d think it really should be down there with an asterisk on the store page. *2020 Premium Deluxe Owners will receive updated versions of the Asobo aircraft they currently have in their collection at no cost. blah blah something like that.

Maybe the LL/FF need to be confirmed too? Working in the sim and an upgraded version existing in it leaves that little bit on the table.

If you had to pay, say $4 to upgrade each of your local legends and you have around 12, wouldn’t that ping someone to maybe going Aviator?

It’s both clear information and in some cases a selling feature of an upper tier.

They’re now taking monies, it’s not 100% clear what the money is purchasing. It’s a continuing legacy title that IS utilizing some assets from previous purchases. It’s not GTAIV and now you’re buying GTAV.

From the MSFS 2024 FAQ

Owned MSFS 2020 Content that has been Upgraded* for MSFS 2024

  • For content you already purchased in MSFS 2020, upgrades to Microsoft-produced content (e.g. Reno Air Races, Local Legends, Famous Flyers, Expert Series) will be free to you.

So that’s LL/FF Reno(which is sponged in anyway). The Husky and 103 are wayward souls floating in this mix.

That note should be on the bottom of each tier’s information page

I think the intent was very clear that MS is charging for the upgrade of the game, which has had substantial renovation and improvement made to it, but they are not charging for upgrades to any aeroplane addons even if updated for 2024 features. For sure a lawyer could pick holes in their statements but I’m confident that’s because they were not written by lawyers and not because there is some secret motive to get extra money from anyone.

I’ve never had a refund myself but I’ve read many times on this forum that users who did get a refund from the marketplace also got to keep the content they had refunded and were able to continue to use it, so it doesn’t seem that simple at all.
