B787X Frustration or Challenge?

Just completed another one of a series of daily B78X long hauls. Everything from takeoff, climb and cruise were perfect. No complaints whatsoever.

But there were 2 instances of AP unable to follow the Approach path well when amended last minute due to ATC request.

But the challenge is to take over full manual control by turning off AP, AT etc. and attempt to make a decent landing following the Approach path.

And that’s the real fun … knowing the PIC can still manage it, with or without AP.

Also using manual control makes for a far better and smooth landing without the last minute hard landing normal seen with the AP.

You are doing a better job because no MSFS aicraft is presently able to autoland.

I would call it more frustration than challenge, particularly with the loss of control authority.

I’ve also started to notice some weird stuff like the autothrottle randomly not working and switching over to manual. Even while “AT” is lit. Literally nothing touched and it starts going crazy.

That or the Mach / IAS not working. Speed adjustment knob only working in 10 knot increments (I assume in reality a smaller increment should be selectable). Bizarre behavior with the FMC at times where you go to delete a waypoint and it deletes the one above it. Or the fact that flight plans sometimes come in quite wonky, particularly as it tries to blend the approach from the en-route.

The list goes on.

Interesting. For me, the stock plane has always allowed 1 knot or 0.01 Mach increment and I have never encountered it in my daily flights.

Thanks for the heads up. Will look out for them.

I suspect it’s the same issue that also makes the heading bug or OBS or whatever else selectable in 10 degree increments. Lots of people experiencing it - seemingly some odd peripheral interaction.

Pretty frustrating in itself though.

Before the last Patch it was more frustation than a challange
now it is more the other way IMO - not perfect but fine to fly and Land now, without the AP.

cheers

I can’t pitch using the elevator. It seems to work sometimes but usually there is no control over the pitch of the nose. Landing is not possible. Very annoying. At first I thought maybe autopilot was engaged but it isn’t. I don’t even bother flying the commercial jets in this sim. I go back to XP11 if I want to fly airliners. This sim is only functional for GA/VFR flying right now. Our home cockpit kinda works with MFS but is still 100% better using XP11 with the Zibo.

If it is of interest, may want to check out this user’s post and video as he repeatedly demonstrates how it works. Found it very helpful. There are others in the thread too.

neither autopilot nor AI pilot works since build 1.9.3

I am afraid your wrong, the a320nx from Flybywire does indeed Autoland as shown and instructed by Real AirBus Pilot (who icidently flys the A320 out of the Uk It’s a bit hit and miss, but shows it is possible if everything works as should.
