Backwards compatibility promises?

That’s the silly thing tho, they’re claiming nothing works when almost everything works (that I’ve tried). Plus the list is so small, only a tiny fraction of addons are listed. It’s just a useless list. Best to just throw it in and try for yourself imo.

I must admit what the OP is saying I would swear it was true, we were told over a year ago that everything in you community folder will work, as stated below and in the 12th June 2023 link

Their words not mine

Owned MSFS 2020 Content

    • For any content you purchased outside of the simulator, the Community Folder will continue to work as it did in MSFS 2020. Any content in your MSFS 2020 Community Folder can simply be copied over to the new MSFS 2024 Community Folder, and the vast majority of that content should work in MSFS 2024.
    • For any content you purchased in the Marketplace in MSFS 2020, that content will show up as owned in the Content Manager (in MSFS 2024 called “My Library”) at launch for you to use in MSFS 2024, and the vast majority of that content should work in MSFS 2024. This availability does not require developers to sign off on their content.

No, they would never have said “everything.” They said “most” things would work. At least for me, everything I’ve tried but one thing worked. That one thing is the Trilander. I can’t get it off the ground. Something with it’s flight dynamics is goofy. It’s also got a weird beeping - didn’t figure out what was causing it.

I don’t know about other people, but I do not consider anything said by a company to be a “promise.” I wish I could have more trust in anything, but I take everything anyone, especially someone doing marketing, promotion or any kind of hype building, with a truckload of salt. Some part of me suspects that more aircraft would have been as compatible as they suggested if the sim had gone fully through alpha and not skipped beta. I think what Jorg and Co. were getting at was something they did intend to be more accurate if everything had gone to plan, but here we are. No way MS was going to let them delay the release pre-holidays so we didn’t get the level of portability I suspect they planned (yet.)

If you read their own bumf on the link above dated 23th June 2023, that’s one year and 5 months ago.
The word " Most " was never used, obviously they knew they couldn’t use that word!
The only language used was, " virtually all add-ons will work " " automatically work " " carry over "

The OP is correct, no one mentioned most.

“Virtually all” is also “most.” They mean similar things. The wording doesn’t matter. They said many/most would work, but never “all.”

Virtually all is more than most! Most just means more than half, virtually all means but a few.

I really think their plan was for very high backwards compatibility and I think they were genuine about that, but have clearly missed the mark by a sizeable margin. They are still working on fixing the issues though so I’m sure after a while it’ll be OK. Backwards compatibly is really hard, partly in thanks to Hyrum’s law, and I think all we can accuse them of is being over optimistic.
