Bad performance and low GPU usage

Hi guys!

I know there are a few topics similar to mine but I couldn’t solve my issue with any suggested tip in them.
My pc specs:

  • CPU: i7-10700 (not K)
  • GPU: RTX 3070
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • Storage: SSD
  • Resolution: 1440p
  • Steam/ MS Store: Steam
  • Developer mode: Activated just for FPS Display
  • Add-ons: none

I play MSFS like 5 days per month or less. I played two month ago. Last time I opened the game I could play at 65-70 fps(high-end settings). I wanted to play 2 days ago and I had to install the last update and the game cannot run above 40-45fps. I don’t know if this is caused by the update (I don’t think so, nobody is reporting anything about that) or it is a config issue (probably).

I took some screenshots so you guys can see what it is going on.

With HIGH-END settings, I get 48FPS in game (A320N, LEMD, cockpit view, on runway)

There is a low GPU usage (11%), CPU seems not to be under heavy load (37%) but there is one core (CPU 15) on full load while the other ones have almost no load.
In-game fps display looks like there is a CPU bottleneck. I think this is ridiculous, it is an i7-10700…

I switched to LOW-END settings:

And the FPS naturally increased but not too much. 65fps in low-end settings with an i7-10700, 32gb ram, rtx3070 and sdd has no sense:

The last image shows again a heavy load over CPU 15 and the other ones have almost no load. Also GPU has more load than in HIGH-END settings, it has no sense.

What is going on? Did the last update make my pc develops a cpu bottleneck? What could it be?

I would look at your traffic settings and make sure they are set quite low, it has been discussed in another thread that even with low general settings in the sim, having high traffic settings takes up much CPU time.

Can you show what your traffic settings are currently set to?

Hi!

The traffic settings looks like this:

I have no data limitation and unlimited bandwidth.

And Ethernet usage:

Yep as I thought, you’re traffic settings are way too high, and they are using CPU cycles, I would suggest turning all down to no more than 25-30%. Some like worker density can be really low like 10%.

Give it a try and see what happens.

There was a video about this on YT I spotted the other day. I haven’t had a chance to view it yet, but it alludes to traffic being a frame rate killer.

I don’t like this trend of uploaders naming their videos this way, though. "I learned this really important thing, just do … ", and not just put “traffic” in the title of the video.

Thank you for your suggestion. I turn them all down to 10% (except worker density, set to 5%) and this is the result:

+8fps. If I turn them all to 0, fps barely go to 62, what it is near to 65-70 fps.

What I dont understand is why could I run at 65-70 fps before, even with high traffic??

BTW do you guys know if gameplay monitor mirroring could affect VR performance?
