BAE 146 - Questions

Dear all,

i have three questions regarding the BAE 146

  • is there a way to see the wind speed and wind direction somewhere? (maybe i am blind

  • i still dont get how the elevetor trim is set up correctly for this aircraft. Once i have the correct fuel and weights, i undertood from the just flight tutorials that a simple way to set this trim is to click on the PFD table on CG% SMC, but this does not change anything. Is there a different way of doing this?

-an Autopilot question. Once i take off i pitch in order to maintain 177 knots, then i arm the VS and turn the AP on. But once i do this the aircraft pitches down and will not maintain the vertical speed i want. Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks for any feedback!

Setting the CG the aircraft using the ipad thing is all well and good but you still need to use elevator trim when flying any aircraft.

In the 146, use the trim wheel to adjust elevator trim tab. (or the buttons if you have them defined).

I’m the same with the EFB and tapping the CG. It does nothing for me so I roll my trim wheel to get the line inside the green band.

yes this is what i have noticed. I end up to manually set the trim to that is in the middle of the green band, but i think the EFB clicking is not doing anything

The trim needs adjusting all through the flight. It will be in different positions at different phases of the flight. Its not something you simply click once to switch on.

Flying a real aircraft is an interactive activity.

not sure about that, during the flight the trim adjust itself automatically, isn’t?

Hello !
When your presse cg% before takeoff it will automatically choose the good pitch trim for takeoff, but After your takeoff and flaps rentry you will have to manually input trim

No. The trim at takeoff for example will be different than the trim at level flight.

Its important to understand how to fly an aircraft without using autopilot or FMC so that when you use that equipment you understand what it does and doesn’t do.

My experience is as follows, If you manually trim the aircraft on the ground outside of the normal operation (blue bar) and then hit the EFB CG% you’ll see the trim position is reset. During hand flying trim needs to be adjusted manually.

VS needs to be manually set using the rocker switch, or use the sync button while AP engaged to set pitch (sync binding is Toggle Afterburner).

I haven’t spotted any wind info, I guess ATIS request or input airport on FMS.

Vertrical trim is controlled by the autopilot when engaged. When hand flying, the trim is your task. Some planes have auto-trim, like the airbus a320. It will trim for the current attitude. It’s mostly on modern fly by wire systems.

The bae146 does not have auto trim.
