Barometric Altitude Doesn't Match The Altitude Given in The Mission Step

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

During a career mission, I set the barometric pressure to 30.12 inHg based on the latest METAR and took off. While flying over one of the sightseeing locations, the simulator instructed me to maintain an altitude of 1,200 feet. However, the step was marked as valid even though my altimeter indicated approximately 1,500 feet.

This suggests a discrepancy between the aircraft’s barometric altimeter and the mission’s altitude requirements. It appears that the mission may be validating altitude above ground level (AGL) while displaying an altitude above mean sea level (AMSL), or otherwise not accounting for the selected barometric setting. Displaying the required altitude as AGL, or dynamically adjusting the displayed AMSL requirement based on the aircraft’s barometric setting, would make the instruction clearer and more accurate.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Every time I set a pressure different than the standard atmospheric pressure.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Load a carrier mission.

  2. Set the barometric pressure according to the latest METAR. (or set anything you would like for testing purposes)

  3. Observe the discrepancy between the barometric pressure and mission expectations.
