Brand new to MSFS and I love it! Always wanted to fly my entire life. I’m getting a little frustrated though as I’ve done the tutorials over and over and I’m always failing (on the two solo flights).
In the basic air pattern tutorial I follow the instructions to the letter, turn left when prompted, then turn into the downwind, but sometimes it doesn’t register me turning. I fly back around in hopes in sees it but nothing.
Sometimes it will register the downwind, then the last leg doesn’t. I’m just trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
On the solo flight using waypoints, I have the hardest time reaching the 8000 ft. Full throttle, slow incline, but eventually I stall, or there’s just not enough juice to get that high. Eventually I hit it, then fly over the airport as instructed (check), then I head to the Golf Course. Like above, it doesn’t register me reaching the golf course. I can literally fly to the destination, but I fail because I didn’t hit my waypoint.
I love this, but it gets frustrating as I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. So I end up just flying around enjoying the view, but I’d like to learn how to fly the proper way.
Is there a tutorial on creating my own flight plans and setting my own way points? For example, I’d like to fly from John Wayne Airport to LAX. I know in world view I can set it up that way. Is that the correct way to do it?
Sorry for the basic questions, but I really want to learn to fly properly.
Thanks!!

I have not yet done any of the tutorials in game for learning how to fly , yet. As I have flown in FSX a bit so have a basic understanding how things work already. Just know that MSFS 2020 is only on day 7 of release so not all things are 100% yet.
Reaching 8000 Ft in say the Cessna 172 is a bit slow but to get there you need to adjust the fuel mixture. It’s a red knob just the right of the throttle knob. You need to adjust this the higher you climb. You can hear the engine change as you adjust it. Loud is better than sputtering
As far as tutorials , there are many. Some maybe are for other versions of Flight Simulator say for FSX but they all will have somewhat the same information you will need to understand. It will all apply in MSFS. As far as flying goes.
Here are two , 1 for the G1000 and 2nd one for the com and Nav in MSFS
Nice! I’ve been looking for something like these. Others have indicated that the G1000 is incompletely modeled, but if I can get the basics down then I’m not limited to the C152.
I have had the same trouble with the solo circuit tutorial, but I know I’m doing it correctly, so I’m guessing it’s buggy.
I can get to 8000 ft by keeping the initial flaps on, full throttle and back off on the mixture a bit. I fly directly over the middle of the golf course, and it registered. I then switched to 221 heading and got to KSEZ. Although you will be pointed at runway 21, it wants you to land on runway 3 (opposite), so you need to do a partial circuit to get there.
I don’t know of any in-game tutorials for flight plans, but it’s straight forward to set them up in world view. John Wayne (KSNA) - LAX (KLAX). There are already lots of youtube videos on this topic already. Good luck!
I actually did that lol… Landed on the right runway and everything and the instructed said “i dont think you’re supposed to land there. Good job but…” lol
That’s awesome I will definitely try that! Great part is that it never gets tired.
Had no clue about fuel mixture. Seems like there’s so much to cover, still not sure how to use the radio but I’ll get there.
