To me it feels like the simulator side of Flight Simulator has been dumbed down to give it a wider appeal and allow people without real-world experience to enjoy the sim. While I understand this decision, I think it’s a shame that the discovery series about aerodynamics told us all how advanced the simulation was and how accurate, but it’s now simplified to the point where it’s frustrating to try and fly realistically.
For example, I find very little use for the rudder once airborne in the vast majority of aircraft (no assists on) so practicing coordinated turns is impossible. The lack of turbulence means that other than a slight amount of wandering due to gusting wind there is very little movement in the apparently advanced atmospheric simulation.
I’d like to see Asobo use either an option to allow switching between flight models for beginners and advanced, or to implement additional assists which allow a beginner to cope with the nuances of flying.
Admittedly I have limited flying experience, with all of it in small single engine GA aircraft so feel free to correct me if I’m wide of the mark ![]()
go fly low over mountainous terrain on a windy day. when done reread your text.
Can’t agree. If you don’t need quite a bit of rudder e.g. when turning in the 152 at low speed, then there’s something wrong with your setup. (e.g. not using the correct, modern flight model)
What I don’t understand is why some people can’t take part in these numerous threads with those endless and annoying complaints about the ‘arcade’ or ‘dumbed down’ flight model, but feel the need to open a new thread.
Have you tried setting ALL the assists to “HARD”? Apparently when everything is set to hard, all the simplification that makes MSFS easy to fly is bypassed making flying very realistic (and difficult).
I tried flying with all the assists at “HARD” and I lasted about 30 minutes before changing them back. Honestly, it was too difficult, too realistic for me.
