Beginners help

100% :+1:

Remember, this is just a simulator and nobody, not even the FAA, will fuss at you if you don’t do things perfectly.

I mentioned in another thread somewhere that I often just practice a particular skill, and abort the flight once I’ve done it.

Example:
I want to practice takeoff, climb, and level-off at some (arbitrary), cruise altitude.

I will start on whatever runway I darn-well-please, engines running, (etc.), and then take-off.  Once I get off the ground, climb, level off, and get settled down at the cruising altitude, I hit the “reset to most recent runway” button on my controller, (MSFS calls it “reset flight”), which puts me right back at that runway, engines running, waiting for me to do it all over again.

I don’t even bother with “flying around” or “landing” because that’s not what I want to emphasize.  Like doing touch-and-go flights, I want to practice that one particular aspect of flying until I am comfortable with it, (and I am convinced that my controllers won’t try to kill me!), before I move on to the next skill.

“Pattern flying” is another thing I will want to practice soon as that’s a skill I sorely lack, and doing touch-and-go flights is a great way to practice takeoffs, pattern flights, landings, (etc.) all at the same time without getting distracted.

The bottom line is that this is a simulator, the ultimate goal is to HAVE FUN, (i.e. Don’t take yourself too seriously.), and enjoy being with a great bunch of like-minded folks.
