The Bell UH-1H Huey was created for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 by developer Taog’s Hangar. It is available for FREE by claiming the Stranger Things Expansion from the in-sim Marketplace. You can also fly this helicopter in Free Flight mode.
I just posted about this in the Taog’s post but wanted to post here as well.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this heli come to the sim for free! It’s great to see an aircraft that the community seemed to love get brought in for everyone. I was also surprised to see all of the liveries included! I truly wasn’t expecting that, and I’m thankful for it. I have a UH-1H diecast sitting just a few feet from me, and a photo my uncle took in Vietnam of Hueys sitting on a ridge. It’s one of my favorite helicopters irl.
I’ve been enjoying it so far but still need plenty of practice to get completely comfortable with it, and I fully expect it to become one of the main helicopters I use from here on out.

Helicopters don’t do much for me, except for the Huey because my dad served in Vietnam. I don’t know how to operate them and wouldn’t go out of my way to get one, but with this being free I may just give it a try!

I really appreciate that thanks to Jorg’s intervention we got the professional UH 1 helicopter for the simulator! It’s great that you got it for free, but this helicopter would have been worth every penny to me in its current form.

Some thoughts about the helicopter:
Professional high-quality, detailed exterior model
Professional high-quality, detailed cockpit
Spectacular, high-quality instruments
Amazing, high-resolution textures
Sophisticated, high-quality, accurate paint variations
Amazing UH1 sound effects
Great flight model
There is one thing I miss that would be nice if the development team would replace it in the future. The engine heat effect is missing.

Overall, a nice surprise and definitely one of the better aircraft released as part of the sim. Looks and sounds are a good upgrade compared to the old 2020 version. And while there are a couple of minor details that still cold use some polish, this is a great gift to the community.
One big downside though is the new flight model. It feels much lighter and twitchier than the old 2020 Huey, which I find less enjoyable to fly. Also seems to have become more sporty in the upgrade, it’s very easy to become (too) fast in flight and hover taxi.
The main differences I’ve noticed are RBS, VRS and cockpit vibration are missing from this free version. The sound is also muted so the classic Huey blade slaps are quieter. Still nice to fly but doesn’t have the true character of the 2020 model.
I’m looking forward to the promised 2024 upgrade of the 2020 one.
This one is listed as cargo. The payware fs2020 one has military or civilian (Bell 205).
The payware fs2020 one has a clipboard with various options & optional attachments, this new one doesn’t. The original one is with fs2020 flight model, the new one is fs2024 native.
The 2020 paid version was of poor quality. There were many texture errors, many quality errors in the exterior model and in the cockpit. The cockpit vibration was ridiculously strong, I felt like I was flying a helicopter in a GTA game. Anyone who has anything to do with real helicopters knows that with such vibration, the helicopter would fall apart in the air. The sound of the continuous rotor clicking in the 2020 version was not realistic either.
The current 2024 release, however, has fixed the errors in every way, we got a realistic, high-quality UH 1 helicopter. I have several helicopter pilot friends, they said this. They fly Gazelle, Lama, MD500E, Bell 206 JetRanger helicopters daily.

If your helicopter friends agree that exceeding 150 knots in a Huey without encountering RBS and can be descended vertically with zero forward speed and then arrested by pulling collective without encountering VRS are realistic I’d be surprised. Also the vibration could be adjusted from zero to 100% on the 2020 version.
Personally the flight characteristics are more important to me than eye candy but each to their own.
I do have some helicopter experience, having worked with them my whole career. Happily retired now and enjoying them in the sim. The most important thing is that they all have their quirks and having two varieties of Taog’s Huey can never be a bad thing. Looking forward to his payware 2024 update.
The Stranger Things UH-1H Huey is a great addition. With all of the assists off and full fidelity controls it flies in a very realistic way. I found all of my bindings worked for true startup with even the throttle idle detent working correctly. The 2020 version still has some nice additional features and variants, including the custom code for VRS, RBS and engine/gearbox damage. Overall I found this Huey very enjoyable. The engine and rotor rpm spooled down when I rolled off the throttle so I can’t wait to try some autos with it in free flight. So far I’ve been having a blast with it in Murray’s Missions.
Only one concern so far…the rotor brake didn’t stop the blades in mission 2 when I had to shut down, but I haven’t tried it yet in free flight.

There is a knob on the floor between the cyclic and the pilot’s seat labelled cockpit vibration or something like that. I haven’t tested it but maybe it’s turned off by default and can by adjusted there?
This helicopter and the “Stranger Things” free add-on was such a nice Christmas gift! I played through the missions and tour photography in about 2 hours and had an absolute blast! (XBOX/Elite 2 controller)
The knob is still there but it is ineffective on this version and that only controlled the strength of the vibration on the 2020 version. Cockpit vibration had to be enabled in the tablet and that doesn’t exist in this version.
Still a great free version though. Very easy to fly.
There is still a little bit of panel vibration on startup, but the ETL vibes and RBS vibes don’t seem to be there any more. Pretty sure that’s custom code in the 2020 version…
[Moderator edit: please do not ping the Community Managers] would it be possible to get a separate thread for feedback on the Stranger Things addon? It’s amazing but I’ve run into a few issues that aren’t Huey related.
