I am about to embark on a series of small, Worls War Two airfields and have been doing a great deal of research. One of the fields I cannot find is Berchtesgaden in southern Bavaria. If anyone has any information on this airfield during the WW2 period, I would really appreciate receiving anything you would be willing to share. Thanks a lot!
The time I went there in search of the Berghof, the closest I could get was the Salzburg Aiport. It’s only probably 10mins away in something low ‘n’ slow. I’ve never heard of an airfield as such any closer than that. It’s really quite tight to get to the compound. Assumedly I thought “The Party” just landed in Salzburg then drove the rest.
That’s about what I figured. I had heard that there was a grass airfield somewhere in Berchtesgaden, but it is probably long gone. As are any remains of the Berghof. When I was stationed in Germany with the Army in the 80’s you could still explore the ruins and orient yourself quite well. Now it has all been bulldozed away and a modern visitor center built to replace it. And there is a luxury ski hotel on the mountain where several of the party leaders had their mansions. Thanks for the reply!
Not in Berchtesgaden but in Ainring, just to the left of Salzburg. The original airfield building is still there, now a police facility. Look at link below, 2nd last group of 4 photos.

At the time it was called Bad Reichenhall. The town of Ainring came later and was built over the airfield.
Hope this helps. Cheers.
Thanks! I wish I had access to this website back in early 1980’s when I was stationed there. (Of course, there was no internet, so it is a moot point!) Back then, you could not find hardly anyone who would admit to knowing any of the local history.
