Hi Guys,
I’m an Xbox MSFS newbe and I want to upgrade to the PC version of MSFS as soon as I can afford a new GPU. Any advice? Steam or Microsoft? Any drawbacks going with a digital download?
Personal Comments
Steam will minimize the authentication and login/update complexity that comes with buying the MS-Store version. It also gives easier access to modifications areas like the Community folder and is also friendlier to moving the installation path if you need to move to a more spacious drive after install.
Also, moved to #self-service:install-performance-graphics
As CasualClick stated, the Steam platform is much simpler to work with, however, if you have already purchased MSFS on XBOX (which it reads like you have) then you already own the MS Store version and don’t have to purchase again.
If you move to Steam, you would have to purchase MSFS again.
I agree with this, since you already have the XBOX version, you have the PC version already. Plus if you plan on using addons, it seems to be much easier with the windows version based on some of what I have read here in the forums.
Im not quite so sure about that. You’ll still need to be logged in with your Microsoft account for the azure speech, and other data. And the last 4 updates saw my custom install folder and had no issues. My community folder is anywhere i put it and use addon linker. Which happens to be a separate 8tb HHD.
Steam clients aren’t held up by: Windows OS Updates, MS Store Updates (Store, not sim), and the authentication chain between Store, XBox for Windows, and Gaming Services.
As long as your Microsoft Account (which is also your XBox for Windows account) is current and unlocked, Steam does a pass through to the sim and launches. Check the majority of errors reported on sim failure to launch and you’ll see the bulk of them are MS Store license holders. And their root cause is eventually one of the above factors or a combo thereof.
No need to look for an error i dont have, but thanks for the description
I bought a disk version of xbox msfs, thinking that would give me some extra flexibility if I decided to upgrade my pc. BUT, I don’t believe that I can use it — only the digital version of xbox can be used to upgrade/move your subscription to pc. If I am wrong, please let me know!
An example of the challenges MS-Store License holders have that Steam owners don’t:
