Best flight you've had

Take a break from raging about the game on the forums and share the best flight you’ve had or attempted to have (because we all know the game has issues and that’s not the point of this thread) I mean we’re talking the ones that really maximized your experience in the game. Be it trying to land in weird weather, random plane “failures” a meme-worthy story featuring you and your mates whatever it was that made you lol. Heck share your “i crashed on final after a 16 hour real time flight and i broke my monitor” moment. Lets keep it clean folks this is just for laughs.

Mine was in the earlier days not long after the game released. Flew from Denver to Anchorage in the A320 before i bit the bullet. Earliest memory of the ATC being sociopathic for 4.5 hours. It must have known I had little experience with SIDS and STARS because it told me “Descend 12,000 feet” and i’m like “:man_shrugging: OkAy SoUnDs GoOd.” Now visibility being…none i went full instruments trying to fly to land into PANC. I look up casually and oh a mountain. Wellberightback.gif :upside_down_face:. Cheeky ATC sent me right into a mountain.

The first flight with a programmed FMC computer in the Aerosoft CRJ.
On December 23 I had learned how to program an FMC and fly IFR.

FINALLY having a study-level airliner gave me the motivation of spending hours with YouTube tutorials and writing notes until I was able to program an FMC.
Thank you Aerosoft for bringing the first study-level airliner to the Flight Sim 20!
I hope this knowledge can also be used in the PMDG 737

Several times in the past few days, myself and the other members of the Simstrumentation Discord have been doing what I call the “Canyonball Run”. It’s basically starting at KPGA, heading to the Glen Canyon Dam just west of the airport, dropping down into the Grand Canyon and flying as low as possible over the Colorado River at top speed the entire length until arriving at the Hoover Dam reservoir and landing in Las Vegas.

So far we’ve done it in the Mooney and the BRSimDesigns H35 (V-Tail Bonanza). It’s been a blast to fly, particularly when flying in a group.

Back in the FS9 days, I had a great mesh for the canyon region and loved taking David Copley’s P-38’s on a similar run, except I always started at KGCN. Running those two Merlins balls-out while running as close to the water as I could was always a white-knuckle ride!

These days, it’s more short runs with imaginary passengers or cargo, with scenarios like an air taxi service in locations like Hawaii or the Caribbean. One of my more recent ones was taking a load of virtual rum from San Juan to TNCM because the owner of the Sunset Bar was running low and needed stock. The Kodiak proved quite capable of handling the job!

we’ll never wonder why the rum is gone when we got you to bring it :upside_down_face:

For me it’s the unexpected things that surprise me that makes it awesome. I’ve had two flights I can remember and the sim had immersed me into it.

The first was landing with gear up and being super surprised! I was on approach in the Bonanza and was following a jet on final. I got told to go around and dutifully followed the checklist, gear up, flaps up max power, then got a little behind the plane following the missed approach procedure, finally returning back into land, then scrape!!! Brilliant!

The second was a few nights ago and racing the sun down and landing at an unlit day only airport, the picture out the cockpit window was amazing and I made it with just enough light

For me it was caused by the weatherbug. As I was getting close to Brisbane i realized that my fuel had become insufficient to actually get me there, so I had a ”real” unplanned emergency to deal with. Was actually quite fun.

Flying the Denver Air Connection Route Denver to Alliance with the Embraer E110

My frames died on a trans continental from EWR>LAX. I debated doing an emergency landing in SLC or maybe Vegas since everything along the Rockies was ffffffffmessed up with the snow that was dumping on New Years Eve but it was soooo nasty. And my frames hadn’t improved much either so i abandoned the flight.

Unfortunately i suffer from the frames bug after about 5-6 hours and i had hit that mark so it was more like “oh this is a thing that happens still…”

I genuinely can’t wait for the PMDG 737 because i will fly to so many places within 2 hours of each other and it’ll be fun because so many approaches and stuff to try yknow?

Now get the FBWA320 Neo freeware. It is as good as the CRJ.
Completely different AP though, more study!!

can say that again. I mostly fly the 787 and i went to do a puddle jump with the neo and i was like “now how the heck do I- Wheres the flippin uhhh… oh it’s called that in an airbus I remem-Why is this beeping Where did my flight plan go???”

Flying across the Sahara Desert just as the sun was setting probably, I don’t know - early 2021 - I was there . . if you know what I mean?
Even the aeroplane is smiling. Even if its smile looks a little like that of the Joker - but the King Air is a funny beast - takes some handling. We’re all good. The Question Mark Cloud above the port wing just adds to the whole weirdness. But I ain’t complaining. A lot of things you see IRL flying are strange and inexplicable. MSFS 2020 is no different.
I think this was the moment I really felt; MS have nailed this - they invented Flight Simulator - and now they’ve absolutely got it. They OWN it totally and I remember feeling this is only going to get better and better . . .and here we are. We lucky virtual aviator brethren.

I spent years hoping MS would come back to Flight Simulator. I often imagined what it would be like if they did - what it would look like, feel like and fly like.
Nothing has prepared me for how much they have surpassed my expectations. am still in genuine awe of the achievements of Asobo and MS.

Thanks Guys - you Rock!

its views like this that justifies every dollar spent on this sim. Sure the planes are wonky and the weather crashes but hot dang does it look good

Inverness to Oban along Loch Ness on the day after release. It was simply stunning, out of this world. Absolutely beautiful graphics and weather before it was all downgraded in subsequent updates. One day I hope we can get back to where we used to be.

It’s hard to pick. I’m not big on theme parks so I took off from Orlando International and mistook Universal Studios for Disney and thought they forgot the magic kingdom. Ended up flying by Disneyworld a little later and was excited to see that castle.

I’ve had a lot of great flights though coming from fsx to here. My hometown was only identifiable by the river that runs through it, and here it is now.

Norman Maclean references aside, it’s definitely fun flying over something and being like “oh wow i know that place!” Flying west out of Denver is fun because i can see the building where i work.

I did a night flight in VR through a snow storm in the TBM to Butte Montana. On top of the clouds, it was beautiful under a full moon. a few of the mountain peaks were poking through and the snow was shining bright despite it being well after dark. I descended down into the snow storm for the ILS. Was bumpy and icy all the way down to minimums. I was a second or two to a MA when the REILs popped out of the black and I landed safely. Taxi to the ramp was even interesting it was snowing so hard and the plane was covered in snow by the time I parked and shutdown. I remember coming out of VR into my well lit room and thinking wow that was an immersive experience. It’s amazing when things are working how quickly you forget you’re sitting at home motionless with a headset on.
