Best settings for MS2020

Hi all and thanks first of all for any help and advice that anyone can give me as I’m not the good anymore with many things after suffering a stroke a few years back aged 39
I’ve just bought a gaming pc about 4 weeks back and MSFS2020 premium deluxe version and this is the only game I’ll play, I used to play FSX many years ago but with my health I’ve pretty much forgotten everything so I’m trying to retrain my brain, sorry for the life story lol but I’m trying to setup the game to what’s best for my pc I will list it’s spec below and would really appreciate any help

Thank you

Operating system|Windows 10 (64-bit)|

PERFORMANCE Processor - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 X Unlocked Processor

  • Hexa-core
  • 3.8 GHz / 4.4 GHz
  • 36 MB cache
    RAM - 16 GB DDR4 (2400 MHz)
  • 32 GB maximum installable RAM
Graphics card - AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT
  • 6 GB
    Storage - 2 TB HDD (7200 rpm)
  • 512 GB SSD

Here’s the advice I give to people.

Start with Render Scaling set to 80, anti-aliasing to TAA, Anisotropic to 16x, Texture Supersampling to 8x8, everything else on High, and adjust from there based on your wants and the ability of your hardware to keep up. Don’t get tricked into going Ultra on volumetric clouds, it looks amazing, but it’s a performance killer. I put windshield effects on Ultra because it most closely mimics the real world, but it can hurt but only kicks in when it’s raining or snowing, but it can hurt.

I also put glass cockpit on “low”, and other than when I’m doing aerobatics in the Extra, I haven’t even noticed and it seems to help.

Air traffic can also play a big role, especially the “AI Offline” version, though they claim the latest patch improved that. I haven’t given it enough testing to have an opinion about that just yet.

Lastly, as many others have noticed, you do not in any way need 60fps in this flight sim, or any other for that matter. I turned off the on-screen fps counter and only check when my eyes tell me there’s a problem, which is rare, and usually indicates framerates below about 25 or so for long enough to notice.

Other than some low altitude areas around Seattle, my 2070 Super shines with all of the above. I keep trying to sneak in ultra on the clouds, but it never works out well, except when there are no clouds. Oddly enough, I seem to get better performance weaving in and out of buildings in Manhattan than I do in less concentrated (but still fairly dense) areas in Seattle. Go figure.

Anyway, enough rambling from me, I’ve found these to be a great starting point if you would like to give it a shot.

Hope all is good now healthy-wise
Regarding settings, what are you aiming? I see many people complaining about having 25fps but all they do is fly IFR… so it’s stupid to complaint.

You plan on flying smaller planes? Or jets? Ifr or vfr?
Stay safe

Thanks very much. Appreciated :+1:t3:

Hi health wise I’m getting there thanks
I’ve been learning the full cold start up videos on YouTube and practicing them with a few short flights around the uk in the A32NX Developer version, I plan on flying IFR mostly around Europe but once more knowledgeable I plan on venturing a bit more

Well so you plan on flying IFR and details will not make very big difference.
Depending on you screen resolution you’ll want to get the more FPS possible sacrificing details as you won’t be doing vfr.

If you are on a 2k monitor recommend to put all on high and the render to around 50%. You won’t notice much difference and you’ll get stable FPS.

If you are on a full hd monitor , all on high and 80/100 render would be good.

My advice to you is forget about New York “benchmark” . Go into KLAX airport and depart from there with above settings and check your best scenario.

To see the FPS counter you need to activate the developer mode (options menu).

It’s me know how it goes and keep up the spirit!

Thank a lot for your advice :raised_hands:t3:
