Will be an alpha or beta for us the xbox users that we have already preodered the msfs 2024?
Most likely no.
There is no need for it. The technical alpha for example was to get telemetry from different system configurations outside of what Asobo can test internally.
On Xbox they just need a Series S and a Series X.
Also, if you consider a “Beta” being a “preview version”/“early access version” you may end up on the wrong road for MSFS.
If there would be a Beta it still would focus on more technical feedback and details and it still would not be a feature complete application.
Likely no, should there be? Yes.
There are variables with console such as IP speed, storage, peripherals, screen settings, enough to warrent console testing.
I pretty much don’t think it would be necessary, because…
Network speed/latency across the globe was already tested on PC as part of the technical alpha. It won’t differ between Xbox and PC as it’s the same networks in use.
There is not much special about storage Asobo would not be able to test in house. The consoles didn’t change in these aspects besides the new Series X variant with more storage.
The Xbox controller was specifically mentioned on the alpha to be used besides keyboard/mouse control, so the hardware which in general is directly supported. Sure there is more hardware around but it doesn’t make much sense to focus on this as every now and then new peripherals are released - it’s a continuous process of ensuring support for joysticks and other things.
On screen settings - what shall be new here? It will be handled just like on the current iteration. In general besides VRR there is nothing special for TV screens. “High FPS profiles” or some “fidelity mode” will just toggle some specific presets. How these are handled by the consoles again can be tested in-house.
There is one big thing why a Xbox beta is not a good idea: Asobo cannot easily add detailed telemetry to the build. Xbox is pretty encapsulated and strict, so they could only get basic data without the developer kit (which is actual hardware). Measuring objective data from the “outside” is not possible that way.
There are some of us who can measure FPS, RAM usage, RAM Leakage. LoD pop in/out rate etc on console.
Why not use these users to everyones benefit.
But i get it, xbox users to PC beta testers are 2nd class citizens.
More participants don’t make better software, especially when it comes down to “public voices”. Most players won’t provide any feedback and a fair portion would just write something completely subjective. Also some people will simply spread misinformation (“I played MSFS24 and it’s great/horrible!”) based on unfinished software not ready to be properly reviewed. The smallest portion will report something measurable on the ends you described.
It has got nothing to do with that. Also on the tech alpha MS/Asobo did specifically mentioned that written feedback is not needed at all. The alpha was just to collect telemetry from different system configurations from around the world and nothing more.
As that’s hardly possible on Xbox and now the sim will be specifically created with Xbox in mind (which was not the case on the 2020 release, so you may see Xbox Users being first class citizen as MSFS24 would otherwise not be needed) there is just no point in investing resources which may be needed to finalize the sim for release.
Everything else, especially on Xbox can be done internally or by using 1st and 3rd party participants who now have access to the beta build (to which they also may have access on Xbox to test their aircraft/scenery).
I don’t think any of those things require external testing.
Also don’t think they were of any consideration during the - extremely limited - PC beta.
waiting for WASM/server load gate 2024.
The alpha will be available on November 19. Seriously, if there’s a stress test for the servers it will be the launch. Don’t expect to be able to play immediately.
xbox beta will start on November 19th
