I just want to say that so far, it appears SU4 was a very successful patch. There are few major game breaking bugs reported for it from what I have read so far.
This is a testament to the good work the beta testers did for this patch. So a round of applause for all the beta testers that gave us such a good patch!
From my understanding, there was the usual 300 beta testers but then there was an additional group of beta testers made up of specific profiles that Asobo was targeting (ie. probably real life pilots, probably users with specific hardware, etc).
The lesson is, if there is a big enough beta testing team, and there is enough time allocated for beta testing and fixing the bugs the beta testers find, we can have a stable patch for each patch that is released. In addition, the beta testers allowed Asobo to get aggressive and include a huge list of changes in SU4.
So beta testing gives us a more stable patch, and more stuff can be jammed into each patch! I still hope Asobo expands the beta testing team even further to āopt inā beta testing. āOpt inā beta testing would allow any player to join the beta test. And perhaps give plenty of time for each beta testing cycle. Anyways, thank you to Asobo and thank you to the beta testers!
I am sorry I disagree. āThere are few major game breaking bugsā, your own statement. One major game breaking bug to me would make this not a very successful release. Now if only one person experienced this bug then maybe not such a issue but the bugs they introduce tend to affect many more than just one user. I would argue that this SU was not successful in part because they didnāt include very many of the issues they had been discussing fixing over the past month or so like LOD issues, implementing WT avionics fixes into default aircraft and fixing issues with the āliveā weather.
Edit: Sorry but I did kind of mis-read your title and statement. The beta-testing itself I guess could be considered a success. I am more talking about the SU itself. I am not sure how many users have reported game breaking bugs but it hasnt seemed like tons of users have. So yes the beta testing aspect I could consider a success you are correct about that.
I agree, there are a few bugs here and there, but overall the patch works perfectly fine and I have been able to enjoy the sim the very same day it was patched, which has been impossible up until now.
Really happy with the results of the beta testing.
Yes, not the testers fault for sure. I believed the testers are all giving their own time for the love of this game/sim and to want to reduce as much as possible, the chances of major bugs in these updates releases. The suggestion of expanding to more testers and giving more time for the testers to test as many scenarios would be a gd one. Overall, having more beta tester for such updates prior to release is a step in the right direction.
Although i am still somewhat disgusted that for simmer like myself that mostly fly the b787ā¦the hiliarious bouncing bug introduced in this update is too much for me to consider the update a success, unless asobo is able to fix it quick.
Yes this bug is rather ridiculous. It was nice to see improvements to the GA aircraft but like always it seems like the tubeliner pilots got the shaft in this update. I was thinking long and hard about upgrading to the premium version so I could fly the 787 and use the Heavy Division mod but I just have not been able to bring myself to justify the price for just that one plane. PMDG 737 cannot get here soon enough!
So far, this is arguably the most successful patch for the entire history of MSFS. I believe we had a similar patch last year with a long list of changes, but that patch was super buggy and it wasnāt very stable at all.
You got to give credit where credit is due. If beta testing is helping Asobo and itās helping all of us players, we need more beta testers and more time for beta testing, not less.
Itās obvious that beta testing has eleminated some of the potential flaws before the patch being released but there might be still room for improvement for constant reliability. It might be a miracle to produce bugless patch if we consider how complex the sim and variety of hardware / software users have. It takes a bit longer than expected but step by step Asobo / MS is on the right course I think. I stick to positive side after final update. In a year or so I guess this sim will be at the right place and quality where it should be.
Beta testing is used by every other game company out there. Itās also used by so many software companies (ie. how people beta test Windows for free). If all the game companies out there arenāt paying their beta testers, and all those software companies out there donāt pay their beta testers either, I donāt see how Asobo will pay the beta testers for MSFS.
I mean voluntary beta testing in Asoboās case, not the usual āinvoluntary beta testingā when companies just throw out unfinished software and call it āfinishedā.
Btwā¦lolā¦FYI singapore is one of the most costly country to live in Asiaā¦lolā¦i haven heard pple associating singapore as a low cost country for a long long timeā¦since the 70s or 80s.hahahaā¦sorry off topic.
I was a Tech Alpha Beta Tester, yes I gave up my time to Alpha/Beta test the sim for free, but it was a fair trade in my eyes because I got fly in the sim for a few month before release. Also any other Beta testās that I have been lucky enough to be involved in after release have been a privilege to be involved in, if for nothing else helping to improve my chosen hobby that is so important to me and many others, how is this hilarious?
Sure this update cleared out a bunch of the low hanging fruit.
But these were also all issues that needed to be dealt with.
Hopefully clears some rubbish off their own snag list and makes the more substantial issues more visible.
