The old FSX route creation system allowed you to add FIx gps to the route, for example you could do a mixed type of navigation partly vor to vor partly based on the use of gps fixes select a navigation vor to vor

On the other hand, on FS2020 you cannot enter a point chosen at will (not present in the simulator fixes) as a navigation point.

for example if I wanted to start from Sedona and sail for 50 miles on radial 25 of the vor of seadona and then navigate in the direction of the vor of telluride, I cannot enter the fix point (GPS coordinates) in the flight plan.

If I good remember it’s possible,

try find on Forum, sry I don’t remember but was from first days topic and one good user described there how to add user defined waypoints via world coordinates. Maybe some edit of FPL need to be also made but is possible…

I read a technique on avism, but it is inconvenient for each point to enter the gps coordinates, instead on the old fsx you could Spot the line created between departure and destination on a third point and add this to the route.
A bit like it’s done on Skyvector.

Yes,

that’s it but what I remember next is then edit some FPL generated (saved) and add custom names, simply to have better help from NAV device. Now I remember that was about VFR flights custom VFR points to have them in garmin and can navigate via them. It’s somehow ok but not for me f.ex. :slight_smile:

Maybe take a look at Littlenavmap. It’s an amazing tool for flight planning. You can load in all the navdata from MSFS, so you don’t get any inconsistencies trying to load in the exported flight plan into MSFS.

I think Asobo even used Littenavmap to create the routes for the bush flying missions.

You can do nothing with this “flightplanner”! Its just rubbish.

Agree. It is hard to even click on stuff a lot of the time. Another example of rushed development.

A few suggestions for improvement:

  • eliminate the zoom in/zoom out animation when selecting a waypoint (it is disorienting and slows down the planning process)
  • display Low and high altitude airways on map
  • do not automatically reset aircraft position to runway when loading a saved flightplan
  • ability to set VFR/IFR independent of the type of route (direct, VOR to VOR…)
  • ability to set altitude for individual waypoints
  • display estimated fuel burn, speed and ETA at each waypoint
