BeyondATC

I have run into this a time or two in FS2024. Per the developers, there’s a Simconnect bug present in FS2024 that sometimes prevents the objects for AI traffic from actually being injected and displayed. Until that bug is corrected in the sim, the suggested solution is to restart the sim. And in fact, that did work for me after I encountered the issue.

Just want to confirm: your correct departure and arrival airports are set in SimBrief? Maybe your settings changed and your SimBrief ID was erased. That can happen when you reinstall or switch versions of an app. Check within your settings if SimBrief ID is entered correctly.

If you resized your FSLTL textures, put them back to 4k and try gain…

My bad, I’m using FS2020.
Not sure if the issue is related to the GSX. The issue seems to occur when GSX indicates that the aircraft does not match the one in SimBrief which is inaccurate. Not sure what is happening between Simbrief and GSX, but that’s for another posts in GSX.

Curious to hear from any ex-VATSIM flyers as to whether BeyondATC is where you expected it to be by now and whether it scratches that itch for you.

Planning a VATSIM flight outside of scheduled events and anticipating controller coverage only to have controllers sign off and leave you in the dark can lead to some anxious scrambling to get off the ground and up in the air - anyone else have this same feeling and found that BeyondATC reasonably replicates the majority of that experience well enough at this stage?

It does what it says. Flaws? Yes. But having large airports buzzing with life, with like 10 aircraft in the queue, waiting to go and all the different voices and accents is something to behold that even online atc networks, by their and the sims current nature, cannot deliver!
With the LLM now about to be introduced as per the recent announcement I think they are scratching the surface of something bigger, that lets my imagination run wild …

I can definitely relate. Often when I see an active airspace on VATSIM I hurry and put together a flight plan, open the sim, choose a plane, open all the apps, start the plane, and after all this, once I try to make initial contact I find the controller has just gone offline. It’s very annoying.

Still, live ATC beats AI—when it works. BATC is a sure thing.

Exactly! So, that being said, with all above things considered - you’re enjoying BATC?

I’ve been getting these batc atc pauses ever since they released the latest EA version 1.5.5?(from memory), of course that coincided with fs2024 patch 4 too.

My workaroud if it sticks/pauses is to manually toggle the frequency, and also sometimes to look up in batc the frequency and manually tune it in if required. It definitely has some interruptions though (and you dont notice them until things go qiet), but they are work aroundable. (Unlike base sim atc)

More infos on BATC and AI

I never flew that much on Vatsim, but I’ve been using BATC since day one on the experimental branch so I’ve had traffic for quite some time. Even though Vatsim is real people, it’s not even really that close to reality (apart from the big organised fly-ins). IFR flying is very much ‘on rails’, which surprisingly has been one of the criticisms of the BATC product. BATC for me, manages a more real experience because whereas on Vatsim you might have one controller covering all of the London FIR with maybe 20 planes on and you’re hearing comms from players on the ground at multiple airports is just not realistic. BATC is not perfect but it gives a very good approximation of a true IFR flight. Now I like flying corporate jets on 1-2 hour flights and so BATC has fit perfect for me. With the LLM AI update coming next year that should open the door to a next step of handling VFR flights, which is a whole different kettle of fish. YMMV but BATC gives me what I need for my hobby.

I’ve logged at least 150 flights on VATSIM. Another 50 or so on Pilotedge. It’s a mixture of VFR and IFR–always in GA aircraft. I like the flexibility of live ATC, not to mention the human contact, and the feeling of accomplishment and validation. I would never want to give it up totally.

I am enjoying BATC but I still find it a little too rigid. For example, it’s frustrating when it asks me for a parking gate and it doesn’t understand when I say “GA Transient Parking,” or “FBO,” or “East Ramp.” It insists on a gate number which I don’t know, and is unrealistic for my type of aircraft, anyway.

I’m hoping that the announced upgrade will solve those kinds of communication issues. I’m especially looking forward to VFR implementation down the road.

I have about 700 hours on VATSIM. Similarly to @SamuraiSax , I also have more self-satisfaction when doing a VATSIM flight over BATC, even when it’s all Unicom. But sometimes I want to be able to pause or time-accelerate flights, or just disconnect whenever I feel like, so BATC fills that void. It’s a great one-two combo of ATC.

Also note that you can do hybrid BATC/VATSIM flights, i.e. you can connect to BATC at any phase of the flight.

Also looking forward to LLM. I haven’t used SI in a few months, but I did enjoy asking the FSS “What airport restaurant has the best burger”; hopefully we get stuff like this.

Apropos of the holiday season, I am off this week and enjoying a cargo run in the PMDG 777F, KLAX to PANC. I noticed this toggle on the newest version of BATC and flipped it on. <3

Oh please, I sincerely hope not! I want realism in my ATC and you never, ever, hear conversations like that IRL. If that’s what you want then stick to SI.

Anway, the impression I got from the video was that you would be mildly rebuked for “non-ATC” conversation.

Huh. On a dual flight a long time ago, my CFI actually ordered burgers from the airport restaurant on UNICOM while we were about 15 minutes out. We were on a very long cross country, needed to get fuel and make a quick turn, and that certainly helped.

Would I be chit-chatting with FSS about it? Not likely, especially not these days, because if you’re in the US outside of AK, the person on the other end is in a call center in TX or VA and they’re not going to know or care.

Imagine asking that at KJFK… ducks

That controller would have an heart attack… Absolute chaos…
