BeyondATC

Yeah well it clearly states on that page “All samples displayed without radio effects for ease of comparison.” so that’s expected obviously.

New price is a bargain, I hope they make enough money to stay in business.

But I thought they were not charging a margin for the premium voices, just covering their costs for what they are charged?

Maybe they’ve figured it’s more profitable to take a small skim on the premium voices to cover the basic and PTT side, which makes sense, either that or they’ve renegotiated with their cloud provider. :man_shrugging:

But the provider can make a better price when a higher usage is expected.

And when you do the math on the new pricing, you will see there is a small overhead:

9,99 : 0,0003 = 333.000

But we get 250.000

250.000 × 0.00003 = 7,5

So from the 9,99 there is 7,5 going to the provider amd 2,49 to BATC to cover PTT and whatever else.

A reasonable pricing model and much more straightforward than the initial one.

What on earth is point of that? We still don’t know exactly what we’re paying for.

I think that might have changed. I listened to the video twice and they did not mention under the new pricing model that Premium voices are being sold at cost.

Just doing the simple math they state that it costs them $30 for 1,000,000 characters. But to buy 1,000,000 it would cost $40. 4 x 250,000 at $10 a pack.

Premium voices now seem to be a profit center.

I’m guessing the move from $60 to $30 involves them selling more units. Maybe that was a way they where able to negotiate a more favoriable rate with their vendors.

Maybe you are confusing something? They are giving you the voice samples in high quality so you can judge how “human” they sound. Mucking them up with a “radio quality/interference” filter is simple business and can be easily altered. They key is for you to evaluate the speech synthesis quality at the source not the radio filter.

My only very slight issue with the Premium samples is they sound like newscasters. Probably what they where designed to be. I know Amazon Polly has specific newscaster voices.

I’d rather hear what I’m going to be paying for than something completely different.

Fair enough.
And i am sure there will be in-fame videos before release where you will get what you are looking for.

And right after release there will be wven more videos that will help you to make your decission.

Right now, they are ao kind to give us a preview of the voices before filters are applied. If thats not for you, then you have to wait some more.

Or you just search youtube yourself or follow the BATC discord.

Here is a video with in-game footage festuring Base and Premium Voices:

Yes, but first they will need to START selling :money_mouth_face:

I will certainly be buying it, though it won’t be until it is fully working with VFR flights as I rarely fly IFR.

I wasn’t too concerned with the prior pricing plan, but I’m definitely happier with the new one, especially the per-character cost for premium which is an “exact science”.

Same here. Considering the pricing model SayIntentions is floating I actually thought Beyond ATC with frequent use of offline voices was a pretty good deal. I was actually pretty surprised they reduced the prices after all the complaints started to die down. But hey, in this day in age with prices going up everwhere, I’m certainly not complaining …

Not a day one purchase for me since I will be looking at reviews before I buy.

Having said that, despite having P2ATC, this has definitely piqued my interest and is very much on my radar if it offers more immersion than P2ATC.

I am personally interested in the non sub version with the free voices. For $30 it could potentially be a no brainer. I hope so but time will tell.

It was already clearly cheaper than the rather excessive cost of Say Intentions’ subscription at $30pm, now it’s a bargain in comparison, and with full traffic management it does more too. It sounds from the video that BATC will be shipping mid 2024 so hopefully we don’t have to wait too long.

SayIntentions has a few advantages compared to BATC. If BATC can provide these I would consider switching to them --(The price also weighs very heavily, of course.)

1- Solid VFR coverage (at least in the US)
2- The ability to hear other sim pilots (as well as AI)
3. A VR toolbar client to make it easier to manage ATC instructions when in VR.
4. High quality ATC voices by default, with various personalities and accents.
5. AI voices respond to real requests and conditions and adjust their responses accordingly.

I might switch anyway just for the great value, but If BATC can provide those things, then I’m in for sure.

That’s exactly what I thought as well. The UK premium one in particular sounds to me like he is going to announce the day’s Premier League scores next. I don’t fly in real life, but always thought that ATC controllers would speak deliberately robotic for clarity rather than have a chatty tone. I think I’ll be quite happy with the Basic voices - in English at least, as the German and Dutch samples mispronounce “male” for example.

Watch some YouTube videos of actual real world flights. You’ll be surprised how “chatty” the controllers are.

I will never forget my second solo where a coyote wandered onto the runway while I was on final. The controller thought it was funny and was chuckling as he told me to go around. I didn’t think it was particularly funny because I now had my hands full overshooting. Yet still, he carried on with his little joke, announcing that the coyote had vacated the runway at charlie before clearing the guy behind me to land. (And to be fair, it was a bit funny in hindsight…)
