BeyondATC

You are wrong. All the information for Sids, stars, and approaches can be wrote into the airport element of the xml file for the airport. At present BATC relies on this data from the airport. This is explained in a few of BATCs videos. If airport data does not match simbrief data it will result in an error. In the future they may offer an option to use updated navigraph data.

If you wish to read further this is a nice tutorial:

I’m still getting a few “huh’s” re: BATC
for example, today, I mistakenly asked for an IFR clearance to O’Hare, when my flightplan was for Charlotte (just completely blanked and said O’Hare) and BATC gave me my IFR to Charlotte as if I have not said the wrong city or airport. It should know the difference, right?

No, its scripted. It’s just wanting to hear request clearance. If you look at the commands you can click on in the lower left of the BATC window
those are pretty much the keywords. The only thing “AI” about BATC are the generated voices.

Interesting, but the page seems not available

But I have found this sentence: “neither the SDK nor the developer mode allows us to build SID, STAR, VOR or Intersection for MSFS2020.”

If it is true, I doubt that MSFS default airports are containing SID and STAR and also those of third parties, probably.

This should work. Fixed other post as well. Actually you would be suprised. The majority of airports that have sids/stars do. Its just getting the data to match

Also this sentence it is interesting: “Try to go in your content.xml file (two folders above community folder) and put your scenery above navigraph-navdata. Navigraph seems to have a delete All Procedures option. So if the sim read navigraph package after your scenery, it will delete your procedures.”

If it is true and you have a valid Navigraph account all defaults procedures are hidden and replaced by Navigraph procedures?

That makes one wonder doesn’t it. Especially when we know Navigraph data is never 100% correct.

Got it, that makes much more sense now. I didn’t realize that. Thank you Bobo!

So following on from that, is there currently any way to change my destination airport mid-flight (like, change my mind, because of whatever — weather, fuel, emergency, just decided to go a different place) and get the system to hand me over to a different tower etc? Or it has to only be the predefined route from SB?

He specifically was talking about how BATC does NOT control the aircraft and how the two can conflict at times because they’re two seprate programs.. also it was 8 months ago
before BATC decided to make their own traffic.

I think they did have an early prototype that talked to AI traffic but they realised that it was never going to be satisfactory because the AI traffic was just doing its own thing and not actually following ATC instructions. Also MSFS AI sometimes does a bit of breakdancing etc. That was when they decided to do full control traffic injection, so it would work how we all want it to.

There’s a lot of features that don’t exist yet because it’s still very early access, and those is one of them. You can sort of cheat by building a new flight in simbrief, then press escape on BATC GUI to end flight then restart and tell it what phase of flight you are in, then it should get you down from there. YMMV I have not tried to do this.

I’m still trying to get a flight where everything works from gate to gate, so far I’m 0 from 7. Main issue at the moment is it doesn’t recognise parking anywhere. Also some arrivals are wonky. The bits where it is working are amazing, totally next level, and with daily new versions coming out I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.

I’m anxiously waiting for the developers to implement the runway change request. Not only because BATC usually assigns me for taking off the runway that is used for landing at the airport, but because it has already happened to me that at the airport, for example, runway 18L is being used as a takeoff and BATC assigns me 36, just the opposite, with 15 knots of tailwind. I know it’s still in a very early access phase, but this feature would be essential if it could be implemented. It would make me love this product even more.

My last 4 flights all went pretty well without major issues. Vectoring, handovers, altitude assignement, TOD notices all way better than default ATC. Taxi data remains an issue at some places, but all in all compared to my first flights, I see improvements already, or I was just unlucky with the airports in my first attempts.

Well unless you’re in the A320, as it’s certified to fly max. 15 kts tailwinds upon landing.

I know that it’s in early access, but I also was under the impression, that it was going to be just A LITTLE BIT more
 refined at this stage.
Maybe after all those cool videos BATC have shown us I got it all wrong by assuming this stuff was ready to be implemented.
I have a feeling they put out the poll because they realized that it would take quite a bit longer to do all the stuff they said would be doing.
After a few flights I came to the conclusion, that the program basically interprets your flight plan. Or to put it a little bit controversially: it does nothing but read it to you.
Great how they put out update after update but I’m curious when the first and really significant one will drop.
“On rails” is okay, but atm this is a bit too “railsy” for my taste

On my last flight I also noticed that it doesn’t know what to do when you left the runway. The default ATC hands you off to Ground and gives you the frequency but BeyondATC just stops after telling you to exit the runway at the next taxiway, unless you manually select the Ground frequency and contact them on your own accord.

I tried to ask for the Ground frequency or tell them that I’m clear of the runway, but I all I got was “did not understand”. I think there should be a proper handoff at this point. Or is it realistic that way?

it always hands me over to the ground controller after I vacate runway

Okay, then it just didn’t work. Thanks!

The rule of thumb for BATC is to look in the lower left corner of the BATC program to see what types of requests are available. If it’s not there, then ATC will say “I don’t understand” or similar. So if you switch to Ground after vacating runway, and it doesn’t list anything relating to Gates, then something got messed up.

As Captain has stated, the voices are AI, but the actual ATC “stuff” is scripted, and it doesn’t know what to do other than what’s listed.

I can say that the latest AIRAC data by navigraph solved all issues i had with BATC at some airports!
