Bijan habashi Continued Development

The performance loss is probably connected to your graphics settings (I suspect LOD in particular).

You say yours are a mixture of high and medium, which would tie in with my theory about LOD distance. It would be interesting to see how it fares if you set both your LODs to 200.

Awesome people, that will probably be the reason why I had such a high FPS loss after SU 10, around 6-10. And I kept going down with the render scaling, which was always 100% before. I’ll test it and take it out completely. And then just set the seasons individually. Without automatic.

The seasons terrain masks always caused me a pretty noticeable hit in FPS, which is why i never bothered with it. It was also pretty noticeable seeing the large tiles loading in when you were at altitude. It was a nice idea and complimented the seasonal foliage colour change well but wasn’t worth the FPS hit for me.

My terrain LOD is currently at 125, the object LOD is at 200 if I‘m not misstaken. I will redo the test tomorrow with different LODs. But that will push my hardware to it‘s limits. Let‘s see how that goes

What do you propose MS/Asobo do instead? Test each simple addition and change to the sim against thousands of addons and tens of thousands of mods?

Then there would never be any progress to the sim.
There was and always will be change to any platform that is being improved upon. That’s the nature of progress.

If a new Windows version comes out and breaks Adobe Photoshop, I also would expect Adobe to fix it.

The sim is the basis and the addon developer has to adapt his product to keep it working. He’s the one charging money for it. Asobo/MS will give you 10-12 updates a year for free so I can expect free updates from the addon developers as well IF the sim breaks the addon.

After all the addon dev will be the one who can more easily find what’s wrong and fix it. And if a product gets abandoned it reflects badly on the dev’s commitment to his products.

And anyway: that doesn’t even happen very often. Most scenery addons and tools have bee working fine through all MSFS updates. The ones most affected are aircraft.

THIS addon we’re talking about also still works if installed manually. The seasonal layers have always been horrible for performance. That’s not new to SU10.

You are comparing multimillion (if not billion!) dollar companies with individual people who often do this as a side project next to their real jobs. How long do you think your 20 bucks last that you paid for the product, considering how many of hours of support Bijan already invested in it?

Well I’m reasonably sure he didn’t only sell one copy
Also this million or billion dollar company has to employ and pay tens of tousands of people as well as premises, equipment, heinous internal burocracy etc etc.
In the end it does not matter how big a company is Both multimillion dollar companies as well as small devs have to find their own way of making it work for them - or not.

If you’re doing it as a sideline you don’t have to live of it and from experience I can tell you that many updates due to newly arising incompabilities are mere trifles. It’s not as if you have to start from scratch.

In the end it has shown that most companies and developers who don’t go with the flow of the sim will sooner or later have either a tarnished reputation or will vanish altogether. The last 20 years has seen many come and go.

Microsoft is the top dog here and all the devs including Asobo are dependent on them. But still MS isn’t forcing anyone to do anything. It’s an open system and you don’t even need permission or a license to make addons and sell them.

Microsoft only provide a platform like DCS. And if a new DCS update breaks an IndiaFoxTecho plane, Dino fixes it. And I’m reasonably sure he doesn’t complain about Eagle Dynamics

So in turn of course Microsoft won’t be responsible for thousands of addons and mods they neither had any hand in developing nor earned any money from (apart from the Marketplace kickback which is a fee for providing the sales platform like on simmarket or Orbx, who als take kickbacks).

That’s how the system works and if a dev isn’t ready to accept this, he will have to deal with the fallout alone.

Wanting it any other way is beyond reality and totally naive.

This is how it works on P3D is the same from each version, you need to update your add-ons. Many add-ons never worked from v2 v3 to 4, 5, nothing was dead, it’s just nature of product maturity. Once Asobo implement Season, welcome to another era and move on for that type of add-ons.

Weather and “season” I would avoid buying these, because many stuff will be changed and implemented in the core sim.

Mine was mainly on the ground in areas with dense trees around the airport - not huge probably 1 - 2 frames a second but definitely noticeable…absolutely gone when I started using Accuseasons. I wasnt so worried about it now but what about the future? Especially with SU11 on the horizon.

This. The addon still works as advertised.
Only the bonus of automatic season change seems to have stopped working. Never used that part anyway.

I am working with a lot of different programs in my job and I can tell you that a lot of companies did not fix their programs when new Windows versions were released. Worst change was with 32bit to 64bit. Wochenende had to throw away printers worth several thousand bucks because no 64bit driver was ever released…

Instead they told every customer to buy the new version (or more recently buy into their subscription services).

In the life span of every product there comes a time when supporting it becomes no longer viable because the technology changed to much or because the product is simply too old. Of course some companies abuse that in order to sell the newest version of their product. Android phones are a prime example with everything older than 2-3 years not being supported any more

This is bugging me too. That “official” statement on the locked Discord channel is weird because it contradicts the previous statement where the problem was with the SDK and “assigning vegetations to polygons as they don’t show any changes applied to them”. And now the problem is the Autoseason feature which is just a Windows app or a script just for copying files between two folders. Hmm.

HMMMM as you said…

To prevent people from expressing their dissatisfaction with discord, to erase disturbing messages, to remove even smileys that are unpleasant to the seller of a failing product, is a cruel admission of dishonesty. And to pretend that the problem is at the level of self-installation, while we report bugs on dx 12 for example, or a loss of fps, is to try to divert the porblem to justify censorship.

There’s a new version 7.2a on SimMarket, with a recommendation to read ReadMe.txt. I downloaded the exe but it says it can’t be run on my computer and as I switched to AccuSeason I’m not going to invest time to find out why. Can someone who manages to install it tell us what the readme file says?

There’s an install.txt on SimMarket. It says to rename the .exe file to .zip.
Done that, I find that only the install instructions and the what’s new text are changed. They tell the user that there is no automatic season change anymore. That’s all.

So nothing changed. Thanks for that.

Do you have this impression that a scammer insists on suggesting that his product is not dead just to continue selling it to the ignorant? censorship on Discord, bogus edits to make it look like an update (???) The title of my topic is modified by the ghost of Bijan. not very glorious this attitude…

I truthfully am not sure what to think. I can believe he has an issue with the AutoSeasons program. But that wouldn’t stop development of the individual seasons, such as removing more trees, etc. The types of things he used to do. AutoSeasons was just a small part of his work. So if he came back and had an issue with AutoSeasons, yeah, I could imagine that. But for that to be the sole focus, I dont get that. I couldn’t go with Rex AccuSeason because of palm trees in Hawaii, which Bijan added. And some of the other fixes and updates in the different season mods. That made his project unique. To not making any changes to those things which he used to, and the sole focus being only AutoSeasons, I just don’t know what to think

Everyone wants something different, you want custom changes, others want auto seasons, others want some birds. For everyone something is important, but at the end of day the product should be perfect so people can start talking nice.
Everything went downhill since rex appeared, bijan couldn’t add anything without people complaining, some are quite aggresive, even this post…i cannot imagine what the author think it will solve…will bijan start working happily on the project?
Why people don’t create topic on what they’ll like to see in the mod? 5fps back? sure…create a topic, you’ll not get it and learn to live with that. 3 trees in whatever hawaii island? maybe you’ll be lucky.
Sure…it isn’t Bijan now, he’s a bad clone of him…sure it is. Why people are so confused i don’t know, he provided a very good service, he doesn’t anymore, that’s all, nothing special.
But hey, let’s trash everything cause we can
