Did find an interesting quote from a pilot that normal flap 0 was actually not fully retracted, and you could hit flap-up again to retract it properly. Didn’t see that in the PoH…
No never heard that … AFAIK And according to the POH and Maintenance Manuals …
The flaps are either Down, Mid position, Or Up (depending on whether this is 0 deg or 3)
perhaps this is the case for the modded “drop flaps” But I haven’t come across it in any documents
The rest of the quote was that the a/c ( that particular variant I’m guessing ) couldn’t make the book numbers ( for single-engine climb, mainly ) without a little flap still deployed, so I guess that is the 3 degrees ( or, it seems, 6 degrees given there was an AD for aircraft fitted at some ponit ). No mention whether the override to fully retract was from the factory or applied later.
LOL! As I’ve recently learned, I’m a bit of an “anorak” when it comes to some stuff, the Britten-Norman Islander / Trislander / Defender being some of those.
For those of you that don’t know what an anorak is, check this slang definition out by The Guardian over in the UK. I had a good laugh, and I feel attacked.

Simple explanation for the uninitiated 
These pertain to the External 54 Gallon drop tanks, Port and Starboard
- When switch is ON, that specific tank will flow into the Main Tanks
- When Said tank is drained, The EMPTY/FAIL Lamp will blink (Until the pump is switched off )
- When Lamp is Pressed (switch OFF) it will illuminate to indicate Fuel is available for transfer
- In the event of any other failure Lamp will illuminate
savvy ?
PS you will also find 2 new Circuit Breakers attached to the main CB Panel
These will BLOW If pumps left running on empty tank

The work-in-progress Islander V2 represents a very significant advance from V1. For those who have both Islander V1 and the Trislander, you know how the Trislander just gave a feeling of increased depth, quality, and immersion after flying Islander V1. Well, expect that same feeling when Islander V2 releases. My favourite so far is the Maritime Defender. What a looker. I really need to try it in NeoFly SAR missions, but have not yet. Will add some screenshots when back at the computer.

A preview of the Maritime version of the Islander (“Defender”), coming in Version 2. (No predictions on date of release, there’s more work to be done on her!).
This flight takes us back a few decades as we fly low around the Moray Firth in Scotland, looking for shipping, and then we check out the oil rigs to the north of the Black Isle. Captions refer to the image beneath the text.
- Starting at RAF Kinloss, once home to the Nimrod. These big boys used to fly low over the water too, so this is a fitting tribute to an era that is now long gone. The weather is changeable, so we’re going to wait to see if it improves.
- Well, in typical highland fashion, the rain’s starting again as we go through engine checks.
- Finally… Weather is clearing, we’re cleared for take off, and we’re off.
- Heavy swells out on the Moray Firth, we’ll have to pay attention to those winds.
- “There be ships here” - The Maritime version is in her element.
- I’m just as happy to be in the air instead of on those seas.
- A little inland, over the Cromarty Firth near Invergordon, with the graveyard of disused oil rigs beneath us.
- Low over Fort George, the large 18th-century fortress near Ardersier.
- Banking for a short final into Inverness Dalcross (EGPE).
- Parked beside the Coastguard facility at Inverness.
Hope you enjoyed this preview flight. There may yet be changes to the Islander model you see in these shots. It was fun making this flight, all the more since I used to live at Inverness, and even though I’ve been in Canada 34 years, a part of me will always think of this as “hame.”
