Blurry ground textures in MSFS 2024 - what are your experiences?

That building has been an issue since launch. I forget its name but there is a thread about this somewhere.

Oh didn’t know that. And yeah it’s St Marks. I’ve been to Venice in real life. Wanted to fly over and bam, saw pink.

Pinks happened 2x to me now. First in DC and now here

What’s funny is that now that MSFS 2020 is down, I am getting very good textures and TLOD in MSFS 2024 :money_mouth_face:

Further confirmation that you have been suffering from a server issue.

Woohoo!!!

That is the ONE issue that can fix itself. And 2024 really does look fantastic for me when it works.

Enjoy!

I agree! When it works it looks amazing. The key word being “when”.

On my end (also server issues) it has been better and better as time goes along. The last several days have been kinda spectacular in spite of all the bugs. I really do like the new graphics although they aren’t for everyone. They do add more of an uncanny valley aspect to the visuals with all the added details where 2020 looked a bit more photorealistic at times but also more flat, anngular, and muted.

The game definitely has a lot of potential. Things just need to be ironed out. I don’t think they had studied some aspects of it carefully (i.e. server overloads, data distribution, etc.). Overtime, it should all be good but I think this is an expensive project for MSFT/Asobo. At some point they will have to make the Sim subscription base, I think. Provide a good game at a cost to customer and good cash flow. I would be down for that.

It is subscription based. Game Pass. That is how most folks on console play.

Textures are blurry when flying at low altitudes and also when flying at higher altitudes. Photogrammetry is melting. Nothing has changed since release, no hotfix has been released for this.

Hotfixes are almost exclusively used for game breaking bugs. And a game breaking bug is a bug preventing someone from playing the game at all.

Fuzzy textures are not a game breaking bug so they would never see a hotfix. If they can be addressed, it would be in a traditional patch.

Please do not lose sleep waiting for this to be hotfixed. It won’t.

Are you on PC? Both of your pics show evidence of that grass felt/fuzz texture added on top of the satellite imagery at low/mid altitude that I was talking about earlier. Does it look any better if you switch grass to off?

Please read my last paragraph in my above post. I just edited and added some questions as you posted your reply.

As for testing, clearly this sim would have benefited greatly from a public beta for a few more months before release. Alas, they only seem to have tested it internally and in that short public Alpha.

Yeah I finally managed to get into the air in an airliner today and passing 10000 it’s really noticeable

2020 vs 2024

I’m not sure if the problem is the raw texture or it’s just a combo of lighting and ground objects and other misc but it undeniably looks worse across the board

Also I have a bug topic filed for this one - please vote if you can, it hasn’t got much traction yet but it’s clear in here a lot of people are experiencing this

Forgive me for asking, but which photo is from which sim?

2020 is on top, right?

Yes the blurry texture even on Photogrammetry is bad, road markings and parked cars are very blurry. I know exactly whats causing it all, the pebbles, grass and new ground texture detail overlay. It is every where including if you go on roof tops etc. It needs to be exclued from photogrametry and other great detailed areas and not blanketed world wide. If anything it should only kick in if you are on the ground and not meshed over everything. If there was an option to turn this feature of it would be great. Go down to street level on a road you will see the pepbles and gravel mesh overlayed. As you go higher it blurs the Photogrametry underneath.

There is one more aspect to this.

Atmosphere and haze blurs things more in 2024 than in 2020. This is realistic but it does soften textures if you are used to 2020.

Correct sorry, yes

That looks awful. Is that your common experience up there or was this uniquely bad?

If that were my system I would pause and see if more terrain data and better textures load when given enough time.

What is your TLOD? Is Dynamic Settings on or off?

I agree, a lot of the new plant life seems to add a fuzzy texture on top of textures, but I don’t think that is the only issue in this one photo’s case.

This is the first flight I did that wasn’t low ground VFR so I don’t have a lot for comparison points. It’s also northern Canada which doesn’t have the best imagery but 2020 definitely resolves clearer. I’ll have to spot check a few others. As pointed out by others I don’t think it’s just the texture resolution there’s definitely stuff like foliage cover, LOD, lighting differences making it look even worse

The way to test if it is textures loading too slowly is to pause, let the camera circle your plane, and look for tiles of high res textures loading in.

If that is the case, give them some time to load.

Otherwise it could be the other things you mentioned. I forget. Are you on Xbox or PC?
