Not really well I can’t tell the difference anyways
Using external sharpening helps
The runways, taxiways and streets, are absolutely bad. Even with TLOD 150-200 and OLOD 200 and everything on Ultra and 4K graphics (PC)… The numbers, lines, stripes are pixelated andy blurry, 50-100 meters in front of my aircraft. Also when i am 100 meters above the ground with my aircraft and i look down in every direction, it gets horrible.
As many here have quite rightly pointed out, the TLOD levels in MSFS 2024 seem to be much more aggressive than they were in MSFS 2020. In the 2020 version, a TLOD value of 140 was still acceptable in terms of visibility. Now, even at the shortest distances, 140 looks blurry. 180 isn’t much better either, and it’s only at level 400 that the terrain becomes sharper. For me, too, the reduced LOD values are currently the biggest problem with MSFS 2024. You can see the differences particularly clearly in my screenshots on the small island to the left of the centre.
TLOD 140
TLOD 180
TLOD 400
Why dont they allow larger TLOD numbers, like 1000 rather than 400
You can go beyond 400 by modifying the usercfg.opt file.
Graphics / Terrain / Lodfactor
4.0000 for 400
2.0000 for 200
8.0000 for 800
Etc
And restart msfs…
Be careful, the higher you go, the lower your FPS will be.
I run TLOD 600 in combination with dynamic settings and a fps target of 25 (with dynamic frame generation). Still wish the aerials would be higher res/zoom level. A separate option tor this would be great.
Wow that’s.. One way to do it! So the TLOD 600 gives you such a pleasing visual experience that you’re not interested in reducing it to get more fluid motion than 25fps offers?
25 fps x 5 framegeneration = 125 fps. Combined with a 120 max fps setting, this is matching my monitor refresh rate. It feels very smooth.
In very dense scenery the dynamic settings reduce TLOD to about 75%, and in more remote places i get the benefit of the increased details and resolution.
And yet, TLOD 600 looks worse than what msfs 2020 used to look like on medium settings, aerial resolution wise (in the distance).
Oooh OK. Didn’t realize you are using FG ![]()
This is the one thing that really bugs me coming from XP12. I am so used to ZL17-19 that seeing ground textures at cruise altitude in 2024 looks very low resolution. Also, it looks washed out. I think the option to increase the bing zoom level would be amazing, but probably would never happen.
You will not really see any difference between ZL16 and 17 from a FL310 or so.
Tlod 825 OLod 400 in usercfg.opt, here also i set primary scaling to 0.30000 and secondary scaling 1.600000
Texture set to low and others to high and ultra TAA

Try to raise TLOD…
and disable Dynamic Settings
Still happy with 2020 TLOD 200 at FL180 ![]()
