Bottlenecked by CPU?

So I’m trying to find out if I’m currently bottlenecked by the CPU.

I have the following system and seem to always be bound by MainThread, I’m guessing the 3080Ti is just too quick and the CPU cannot give it enough information? This is definitely the case in VR as normal mode seems to be ok.

Thinking about the Ryzen 5800X3d which seems to be the CPU of choice for MSFS? Who tends to agree?

Ryzen 5600x
32GB DRR4 3200 RAM
RTX 3080ti 12GB GPU
Running at 1440p with render scale at about 150 in flat mode.

You’ll likely be MainThread limited in 2D mode no matter which CPU you get. VR requires more GPU usage.

Even 3070 Ti (or even the non-Ti) would be bottlenecked by your CPU in SU9 with DX11 (particularly as render scaling doesn’t add that much). Haven’t tried the beta yet, but at this point I’d advice to wait until SU10 gets ironed out and released before doing hardware purchases.

Pretty much every processor is mainthread limited on MSFS using DX11. Even the mighty 12900k and 5950x are mainthread limited. In its current form, upgrading to the 5800X3D would likely improve overall performance due to the very high L3 cache, but still likely to be mainthread limited on DX11.

I would urge you to wait a month before making any new purchase. I’ve been testing DX12 on SU10 beta, and it looks very promising.
