Breaks on a 172 Skyhawk

Thank you very much for the numerous tips. Yes, I’m trying to use the blue guidance boxes in the air to help me with landings, and I’ve often noticed that they lead to a tight turn towards the runway, which sometimes leaves me too high and at risk of landing too late on the runway.

I also often have the problem, when landing on a grass runway, that I can’t clearly see where exactly the runway begins and ends or how wide it is. Sometimes I get penalized because I miss the runway slightly and don’t land directly on it.

This last steep turn is part of the default traffic pattern. It’s a simulator, so they think you know that, but even then I don’t trust the blue paths for now. Some tips:

  • Focus on flying as an employee (no problems if you crash)
  • Study the destination airport (mainly runway length, surface type and weather)
  • Study the ideal landing length and speed for your aircraft
  • Study flaps application for your aircraft
  • Focus on flying a single aircraft, a different one is a totally different beast, you can’t learn everything at once
  • If using the blue paths, extend the downwind leg for one or two minutes, only then turn to base leg (this way you’ll have more time to align with the runway later, just be careful with altitudes and obstacles when doing that)
  • Use Career Mode as a freelancer only when flying to large cities and runways for now.

That’s it, I hope it helps and good flight!

I’m not in the sim now, but I will try your excellent tips today or tomorrow. Yes, and your suggestions are so helpful. Thank you a lot for that.
