Still not good are they, not a sim bashing thread as I absolutely love every minute I spend with it, nearly 80 hours flying which as my first ever Flight Sim and first ever PC I never thought would happen but even after today’s update I flew the East Coast tour and was surprised to see how blocky most of them still are, now I know there’s millions of them throughout the world and recreating every one ain’t gonna happen but at least give us less ugly autogen ones
And don’t even mention what has happened to the Forth rail bridge !!
Blackshark.ai either teaches the AI to figure out which bridges have significant dead space underneath them (some have very low elevation that would be immaterial to trying to fly underneath), or they’re hand-built. The latter is not sustainable given the number of bridges globally in existence. I recall it was one of the last Service Packs in FSX that the team was able to handcraft over 40+ bridges.
I don’t think there will be a generally favorable outcome to this, as the AI also cannot figure out shaping automatically (i.e., different types of suspension bridge design) again from overheads only. The bottom line is that there will likely be a lot of incorrectly shaped bridges with solid walls underneath for the foreseeable future. And it will remain that way until someone comes up with a really neat systemic way to autogen shaping and deadspace clearance.
