With msfs2024 we lost the real life look that 2020 has and that is now replaced with this arcage-gameish look. The colours and the way light reflects from surfaces are really poor with the new sim creating this cartoonish look.
We need the same colour and light behavior that 2020 has.
Sorry to say but the general tone mapping and lighting on MSFS 2020 was not close to be realistic. To me MSFS 2024 does this way better and it should not be reverted.
Also saturation on MSFS 2020 was way too overpowered which was mostly visible on red colors.
The lights system in general is also way better, especially on passive aircraft (live traffic/ai traffic/multiplayer) from a distance but also on ground, it only needs some tweaks here and there (like that âsepia colored layerâ on cities).
Maybe OP means the blue/green taxiway lights which are overpowered and visible from above? Thatâs a bug, not a style decision (see flag on that topic).
i also think 2024 looks cartoonish, i feel like iâm playing mario or something
i think it varies a lot with where you are flying
the usa for instance, looks much better⊠but i dont usually fly there
where i fly, 2020 looked much more realistic
I think FS2024 overall looks much better in terms of colour tone. I think a lot of it has to do with the quality of the satellite imagery in different areas, and how the AI has either done some tweaking on it. I suppose it might sort itself out once we start seeing world updates.
I disagree. Lots of issues with 2024 but this isnât one, 2020 always has a green oversaturated look, 2024 is more realistically drab at times and the lighting is much better
However I recognize that this may vary depending on location, perhaps the colour grading on some area textures is off
If you follow A330 Driver on You Tube you will know he is a real life A330 pilot and previously a 737 pilot, for a European airline.
He is very pleased with the lighting at cruise level and also the ground during climb/descent.
They look accurate to me also with good white balance and a high colour temperature. It is clearly subjective, but if a real life pilot likes the scenery and lighting that is pretty good evidence.
Is there a real life airline pilot who is dissatisfied with the scenery and lighting ?
I couldnât disagree more. The lighting and colour grading in 24 is so much more realistic. I donât have to use Nvidea filters any more to remove the brown/red/orange tint. I hope they donât revert back. Itâs one of the few actual improvements they made.
Still i would say FS2024 is too bright. Not just some aspects of night lighting (which i mostly like but some aspects not so much) but in good weather/clear skies. As if every white object (aircraft, clouds) are plain white and then added bloom/reflectivity on top. No contrast left.
I like the lighting very much but bright objects are too bright⊠Monitor settings cannot counter this.
Especially nothing is really âweatheredâ. Aircraft, Airport buildings are clean and bright and i can understand if people would describe this as âcartoonishâ.
Ive yet to seen any footage from the new sim that could be mistakes as a real life footage! As a cinematographer, with 2020 I can create easily footage that is almost impossible to recognize as a sim footage.
Feel free to show me if 2024 can do the same. Ive searched all the channels in YT etc. but all the material looks just like a cartoon. There is no way you could mistake that as a real life footage.

Nope! I am a real life cinematographer and filming also alot of aviation related footage irl and with 2020 Ive been creating footage that is almost impossible to distinquish from real life footage.

Feel free to share if you have that kind of footage.
Ive used hundrets of hours to study how to get the footage out of msfs2020 that looks as real as possible and I can say with 100% confidence that I havent seen any footage that is even close to that footage in msfs24. There is indeed something wrong the way light reflects different colours on surfaces and also its way oversaturated. Also it has very unrealistic tint overall.
