There are two types of people with views on this. The ones who think the new lighting system is just awesome and the ones who think it’s rubbish and makes the sim look cartoonish. I tend to think the ones who think it’s awesome haven’t been up in the sky enough to know what it really looks like from up above. But I don’t want to berate anybody. I’ve been on over 200 flights and I pretty much know what it looks like. Atmosphere wise, 20 has it down. Terrain wise, 24 does a very impressive job. Unfortunately the cartoonish atmosphere and overexposed lighting engine ruin it. Either way you’re never going to change the other groups point of view.
Lol, I fly all the time and what I see is much more similar to the second screenshot than to the greenish first screenshot, which looks cartoonish to me.
Like I said, the two sides will never agree hehe
I can agree with that, haha.
2020s ground scenery is looking a little dated. My views are mainly about the atmosphere.
From low altitudes the ground always appears more warm and vibrant. That amount of blue haze, darkening effect, and color removal should not be occurring yet. In my opinion of course.
I thought the green grass in 2020 was bright enough but its even brighter (and washed out looking) in 2024. The roadways are weird colors. The dirt areas aren’t right. You’ve got blue green grass and overly dark trees (from that altitude). Its a mess.
Nope, the roads were green in MSFS 2020, they fixed that for 2024 and they now are much better. Same for the trees, everything was too much green in 2020, now they got the right colors. You probably need to calibrate your monitor, because this isn’t even debatable.
I didn’t mention green roads but since you did – roads were green in 2020 due to either satellite image issues or the green overlay they added. My issue with the roads in that pic have nothing to do with either of those things. Its simply that they don’t look like they should being concrete roads.
You say “they got the right colors” but yet the grass in that pic is three different colors - bluegreen on the Mall and near DCA, a bit bright but closer to real (from low altitudes) green closer to my perspective, and bright washed out green near the Pentagon and across the Potomac. My monitor isn’t causing these colors here or at any other location like in Switzerland where the colors aren’t right.
I don’t argue that 2020 is better. I do argue that aspects of 2024 - the ground imagery and building colors in some locations - need adjusting to look realistic with the new lighting.
