I finally “completed” my first flight in the A321 from CYYZ to KJFK and back home again. Started at the stand cold and dark. I was very impressed with the graphics and the interface. Things that had presented problems worked as intended for the first time.
All was good until I was in my final approach coming in from over the Atlantic to 22R. As the flight progressed over the ocean all was well. I noticed very improved textures. However, as soon as we were flying over dry land the sim started to stutter and stop and start while new details were being rendered, one chunk at a time. You could actually watch the scenery build, layer by layer, slowly. Once the closest area was complete the pace picked up until the next segment was required. And when we were at 2,500 approaching KJFK the sim froze for 15 seconds at a time. This continued as we approached the gate, all the while waiting for the scenery to evolve and become more detailed. However, the JFK Terminal and the AI planes on the ground were very, very poorly rendered… Even inside the cabin, the instruments that had been crisp at the beginning were blurred.
The return flight started the same way. Very good performance and at one point my Xbox drew down at 75 Mbps which is the highest so far. As with the flight to KJFK, the return started during the daylight but the landing was at night. And once again the performance of the sim and the quality of the visuals were very poor and halting rendering the night scenes. The network during this final period never used more than 10 Mbps.
And, I didn’t even make the landing. When on final on the glide slope below 1,000 the A321 suddenly nosed down and to the left into the ground.
I have a 100 Mbps fibre to the router service. My Xbox is connected by ethernet to the router. So it’s likely not my network that is the issue.
Has anyone else encountered such a slow down waiting for scenery data to be downloaded and rendered? Have you noticed difficulty with night time imaging?
