Bug: Fixed Cameras not available anymore via assignment

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
I’ve used to get to the fixed cameras via Toggle Drone and then Toggle External view. Since SU2 this is broken. It was very convenient to access the fixed cameras that way and it was also possible to cycle through them.

There are buttons to access the fixed cameras as well but using them is a mess:

  • input repetition cannot be turned off (so you need to hope to press the button short enough to get the desired view)
  • when using it it strangely also affects the cockpit views, so in VR you can end up in a situation where you view on the instruments with no way back other then exit and reenter VR

I hope this will see a fix during the course of the beta. It’s quite annoying and I wonder why there was even a change made.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
No.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
No.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?
Every time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Assign the following buttons:
  • “TOGGLE DRONE”
  • “COCKPIT / EXTERNAL VIEW MODE”
  • “NEXT FIXED CAMERA”
  • “PREVIOUS FIXED CAMERA”
  1. Start a free flight
  2. Press the button assigned to “TOGGLE DRONE”
  3. Press the button assigned to “COCKPIT / EXTERNAL VIEW MODE”
  4. Use buttons assigned to “NEXT FIXED CAMERA” and “PREVIOUS FIXED CAMERA” to cycle through fixed camera views

This works in SU1 but not with SU2 beta.

Is that the same issue than reported here ?: Custom Camera keybinds INOP in SU2 Beta

Yes and no, maybe???

No, because this is related to Fixed Camera Views.
Yes, because it involves camera keybinds in general (my issue is specifically for Custom Camera Views).

Update here: Custom Camera keybinds work in the Fenix A321 IAE SL. I presume they work in the other Fenix aircraft too but primarily fly the 321 and haven’t flown it in at least a month! Super excited right now for short flight, I’ll actually be able to quickly get in and out of a wing view again!

What binding are you using exactly?

I use ALT+1 all the way to ALT+0. Made sure these bindings were not consumed by anything else.

Another update, it looks like the binding isn’t broken, but one of the betas totally wiped out my custom views. My binding to save custom views works, and the binding (that I had forever) to activate said custom view also works. I think I’ll take this for what it is and just re-set my views in all the aircraft I regularly fly… lol

I’ve used shortcuts to get to the specific fixed cameras from the drone camera, but the problem for me has always been getting back into the pilot’s view. I’ve never been able to figure out what to press, and I usually just mash all buttons until it works. Today I wanted to learn the logic how to actually do it. It was… madness.

Seemingly, you get a different result every time you press a button, depending on what buttons you’ve pressed prior. And not much of it corresponds to the function, you’ve actually assigned to the button. I’ll spare you the details, because after three hours (!) of trial and error, I’ve actually found a solution that works for me, maybe it can work for you too.

I have a shortcut for TOGGLE DRONE (there is a binding for TOGGLE DRONE CAMERA, but this can only toggle the camera on, not off, that’s not what I want), in my case, I set this to Shift+X. I then have shortcuts for each TOGGLE FIXED CAMERA XX, up to ten, which I set to Shift+NUMPAD1, etc. To get to a specific fixed camera, from the cockpit view, I therefore press Shitf+X and then Shift+Numpad2, for example.

Now, to get back to the cockpit pilot’s view the important thing to remember is to again press the shortcut for the currently active fixed camera. In my example above that would mean Shift+Numpad2 again. This takes you back to the drone camera, from where you can then go back to the cockpit with TOGGLE DRONE, in my case Shift+X. If you switch to camera 3, 4, 5, and you want to leave, press the shortcut for the currently active camera. If you press any other button while in any fixed camera, well… let’s just say that I have slightly less hair now, than I had this morning.

You mention input repetition, and in my case that’s not a problem. If I check the shortcut for the fixed cameras, input repetition is seemingly enabled, but greyed out and can’t be changed. If I keep the keys pressed, nothing happens. I have to let go and press again to toggle again. I did try to assign the fixed cameras to the function keys first. Shift+F2 changes exposure, so it created a conflict, but I tried it anyway. Then I noticed input repetition on the fixed camera. My guess is, that because the exposure actually makes use of the input repetition, the key bind conflict makes the fixed camera behave the same way. Without the conflict, I get no repetition of the fixed camera shortcuts. Check and see if you have some conflict that interferes.

Good luck!
