Bug threads being closed with 500 votes and no fix

For example…the ‘Incorrect ATC Terminology’ thread in the bugs forum has been closed and locked. It’s got almost 500 votes and is, most definitely, not fixed. Just because people stop discussing a bug doesn’t mean it’s not still a bug.

So, mods…do we have to keep posting in a bug thread in order for it not to be closed after a month of no replies? Cos every bug / wishlist thread is going to start getting monthly posts that say “This post is to remind Asobo they still haven’t fixed it.” if that’s the only way to keep it from being closed.

I believe this could be an issue of terminology.
I believe, to ASOBO, closed means access to the thread or defect itself was “closed” because work towards the solution is underway.

Sorry but I don’t believe that is the case:

I think the forum software has auto closed the thread cos it hasn’t had a reply in over a month.

yes but hopefully now it is in their radar and no need to keep this topic open.
A new topic should be opened after sim update 3 or 4

That is true, after a month they do close them,
However, it could also have been closed because it has gone from the “defect request” phase to the “scheduling” phase.
That is how AOBO does it.
They close the defect request then.
If it said “not planned”, as in item 12, then you have a problem.

Any thread with an associated vote should be kept open till there is a general consensus it is fixed. The thread should not be automatically closed by a bot.

Asobo might make marginal changes to a problem, and the original thread is the obvious centralised place for users to post their opinion on the “fix”, whether good or bad. If the thread is closed, how will the user reaction be tracked? The likely result will be several parallel threads being created after each sim update, with all the confusion that always causes.

Where I used to work, when an issue was raise by the customer this would be added to a list of outstanding actions, and would be discussed at each meeting. It was not closed till the customer either was happy with the solution, or decided it was no longer necessary. Why should this be any different?

The system automatically closed the thread 4 hours ago (as I type) as no one had posted in that thread in 30 days. There is no nefarious agenda here to close bug threads that need to be kept open or sweep them under the carpet.

In this instance I have re-opened the thread but be advised bug threads with no activity for a month will automatically be closed.

As others have said this issue is due to be addressed in the next (or following) sim update, i.e. in the first few months of 2021.

Thanks for bringing this to the forum’s attention and always feel free to send a message to @moderators if you see a thread closed that you think should be open!

Regards

I think the threads in the bugs and wishlist section being closed is a bug, or at least they were not meant to auto-close.

At the bottom of this thread there is a note stating the thread will auto-close after 1 month without replies. But this note is not posted on bug/wishlist items. So I think it is not intended to auto close, which makes sense. Auto closing those threads wouldn’t make sense.

edit: I may have found the cause. A couple of days the admins of this forum opened a new section for bugs. This one does in fact have the auto close option and note enabled. The old bug forum didn’t. Neither does the wishlist section. So I guess it’s a matter of removing the auto-close flag in the settings.

No-one’s suggesting a nefarious agenda. I just strongly recommend that auto closure of threads in the bugs and wishlist subforums should be disabled.

Why does the forum thread need to be opened when it’s on Aobos internal bug tracker/list?

Asobo does not track the Bugs in the forum. Once they have put it on their list, there is no need for more votes in the forum.

It’s not like this forum is a bug-tracking tool.

Users will often find out new things about a bug, even a month or more after the last post about it. If Asobo have any sense (as I hope they have), they will review the forum comments on any bug they’re just about to start work on, just to make sure they understand the problem, and what users have found out.

It is common sense that any item that is going to eventually be adressed by Asobo should have a centralised thread containing all pertinent comments, including changes noted during previous updates. It will make their lives easier, and hopefully get a result sooner.
